For once, I agree with impurity.

I don't think politics and religion should be allowed in the Flood or anywhere on this site.

Yes. Religion and politics lead to flame wars. Furthermore, religion and politics can be discussed in private groups.

I think discussions would be much more interesting if those two topics were "allowed," but of course, the immature members of this site would ruin it for the rest of us.

srsly.

I think it's needed for the public forums. If you want to discuss it, just do so in chapters. That's the only "safe" way.

Even though they confine debate to certain topics, do you think that threads are better in general without them?

Yes.

Religion needs not be discussed. Anyone of ANY intelligence knows the truth. As for politics, why the hell would anyone come HERE to talk politics?

Religion - No
Politics - Meh I could see something maybe in the flood asking who you voted for or something. I'm okay with politics.

  • 07.07.2007 7:59 PM PDT

My personal rules:
1. Discuss Bungie games and Bungie stuff on the main forums
2. Discuss all else in Groups
3. Stay out of the Flood

The Frozen Minority - The most infamous clan borne from the Seventh Column.

I wouldn't mind if we could discuss religion and politics but it would be detrimental. I'm not saying we wouldn't benefit, we could have awesome discussions, but the majority of The Flood can't be trusted with non-religion, non-political discussion anyway.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

Yes. We are all just people here. No need to let political/religious beliefs cloud our perception of somebody who makes a valid thread. If we allow it then I feel that this is what would happen. Not all of us can look past it. Sometimes we need help to have our eyes opened. That is why I feel the rule is in place. Maybe one day humanity will grow a bit and we can all see each other in the same light.

That's wishful thinking at best.

You say tomato; I say potato.

Sometimes religion and politics are best discussed in person. The internet can have a way of exagerating ideas and watering-down personality.

  • 07.07.2007 10:11 PM PDT

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

It is a shame that people aren't responsible enough to have the privlege to talk about religion and politics. I don't mind having intelligent discussions, but the fact that a person is anonomous here (pretty much) means that they can say anything they want, which means that the threads ultimatly end up far away from where the original point was, and in flame wars.

I wouldn't say that the users of these forums weren't responsible enough. Through chapters/groups there is obvious potential.
The problem usually comes from flamers. It is because the community is so diverse and large.
Thats just how I see it.

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

I think we're probably better off without it. I mean, we can hardly handle a Rap vs Rock thread. How could we keep an election thread in line?

Halo3Planet, the place for all things Halo 3..

Need help finding skulls, make sure to go here.

I feel that discussions of religion or politics could be allowed at these forums. There would have to be a zero-tolerance policy, though. The Moderators would need to make sure that there will be ABSOLUTELY no flaming in any of the threads. I think, that, if the moderators strictly enforced that rule, and anyone who flames anyone else about religion or politics at all, even if it is a joke, should be given at least a 7 day ban. I feel that, eventually, the members of this forum would recognize that if they flame, they will be banned, no questions asked. I'm not saying people should just randomly bring up what religion they are in a thread discussing the armor in H3, but we should be able to create topics to discuss and maybe argue religion and politics.

I think that Bungie could just at least give us a chance. For instance, Bungie could give us a week to discuss religion and politics, and, if it is out of hand, then we can go back to discussing H3 and other things. In this week, though, I think Bungie and the Moderators would need to make it clear that any and all flaming or anything that could be interpretated as such would be treated with either a 7 day ban or a permaban.

EDIT- And on topic, I don't think that banning religion and politcs allows more open discussion. It does, however, keep people from making the pointless flame threads, but I think that my above post could help solve that problem. I recognize that Chapters are the place to discuss these things, but I feel that Bungie could at least give us a chance.

You know... not discussing 'politics' because they are restricted is... well... political. To take things further, making a thread about whether or not the discussion of politics should be allowed or not is also political.

Politics isn't just something that involves talking about major political parties... it is something that is built into the very nature of human social interaction; even seemingly random violence is most often a political statement of some sort of another; depending on how much you want to think about it.

What I'm trying to say is that they'll always be some 'political' discussion happening around here but it's most likely concerned with the 'politics of being a member of bungie.net' or the 'politics of being a fanboi' etc. Those are relevant and can't exactly be prevented.

The stuff I think you mean... the stuff regarding whether country X needs to deport more immigrants or pump more money into R&D for military technology isn't really appropriate around here and is only likely to lead to chaos, bitterness and a rise in stress-related illnesses for bungie.net moderators. The other stuff, the stuff about whether Luke's spelling is any good or whether Achronos needs to employ some advanced AI system that scores members on how well-behaved they have been is really about as political as this place needs to be.

On a final note it's probably worth mentioning that this is a privately owned corp website built for the purposes of providing 'the community' (sigh... that word makes me shudder every time) a place to interact and discuss Bungie stuff/games/weirdness. That means, by it's nature, it is already of a certain political disposition. That also means you should understand you're flogging a dead (most likely executed) horse. Look what they did to their dog man.

The best thing people can do if they want to discuss politics is go take a higher education course or seek involvement in something they believe in...
