Apparently, you must not like money.

Because I am damn sure that Bungie likes it!

It's not only about money. I think what Bungie likes best is to create kickass games for us fans.

Without Microsoft, it would be probably have been much harder to get to where they are now.

Interesting you say that. Bungie used to hate Microsoft, but they had to let MS buy them out to stay alive. Bungie, since it's now owned by Microsoft, can't quit.

I feel your pain. I now refer to them as Bungiesoft.

Halo would've been better if they had found some other source of funds and completed it for the PC.

Without M$'s funding, and support, I really doubt that Bungie would have had access to all of the tools that it does now.

Yes, and that's why I mentioned some other source of funds... it's a real shame the game industry is becoming so consolidated these days, it seems there's not one successful title that hasn't been bought/ruined by Square-Enix, EA, or dare I say, M$.

VALVe is my champion. They're using their electronic distribution system, Steam, to stick it to the man and take royalties from the publisher.

Best not to start something like that.

I agree about VALVe and their use of steam, however. While I'm not totally sold on digital distribution yet, I am all for rubbing out the middle man and giving total control to developers.

Imagine what would happen: Games would be released when the developers declared it done, no more rush jobs to meet a publisher's strict deadline. No more cut corners or having to bow to a corporation's whims.

I think the sooner we make DD standard the sooner we'll be seeing better and more innovative games.

...The Phantom is still laughable, however.

98% of people think that making up statistics is cool.
If you're one of the 2% who doesn't, copy & paste this into your signature.

HBO Helljumpers

I know. I waited about a year for halo to come out on the mac, just to hear that bungie is now owned by microsoft.

So far, I've had no problems with this method; I've downloaded pretty much everything VALVe offers on Steam without incident, and it was a hell of a lot easier than driving 30 miles to the nearest game store. Steam also makes it harder for people to get warez, as everything must be validated by their servers. The only problem is most people in America don't have broadband, which is required if you want to download a game. This will not be a problem in the near future, and in countries like Sweden it's already quite possible to distribute your games online only.

Anyways, I guess I am a little biased against Microsoft. You know, ever since that Windows thing "Buy this $100 upgrade to remove the bugs we intentionally placed and the security holes we didn't!"

So life would be better if nobody strived to create an easy-to-use, easy-to-code-for OS, even if the first incarnations were single user? Do yourself a favor and have a legitimate reason to hate MS before you jump on the anti-corporation band wagon.

Hmm... lemme see.

The _only_ thing Windows brought to the table was a GUI. Wow. When it comes to functionality and security, it's dead last.

Linux, OS X, FreeBSD. They are all far superior.

So you're saying it's NOT easier to code for an OS when you can access the kernel through DLLs, and don't have to recode menus and stuff every time?

Oh, and I just have to ask: How do you think Microsoft became the top seller of operating systems if it's no better than any other?

Windows is cheaper, and simply more popular. How is Doom more popular than Marathon?

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

Guys...

You'll live.
