Should the web team make a section in the 7th column about major events that happened in the forums? I think it would let us appreciate and reminisce about all the exiting/sad/joyful experiences we as members have gone through as a community. Either the web team could do this or a member could make a thread in the septagon.

How detailed would this list be? If you had anything except the the most important updates/events, the list would be as follows:

1. Forum is opened
2. SPAM
3. SPAM
4. SPAM
5. Something cool about Marathon is announced
6. SPAM
7. SPAM
(Etc, etc, about 50-60 times)
58. Argument starts about item 5.
59. - 128. SPAM

Etc, etc, etc.

But yes, a list of important moments in Septagon history would be pretty neat.

I see your point, but thats why major events would be the only thing embedded into the time line.

I know someone in The Flood wrote down our history. It's cool to look at, though an official community timeline wouldn't contain all the intricacies of forum evens(forum wars, black saturday, etc)

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

I disagree with this idea.

I know what led to this thought, and I think that the last thing we need is for this hacker to feel self-glorified because he gets to be put into an official timeline. This would encourage people to raise havoc on the forums knowing that, if they raise enough, they'll go down in Bungie history. That seems like a horrifying prospect. The only important events that happen here are those surrounding official Bungie activities and events -- not hackers. This removes the incentive for people who simply want to do something that attracts attention. Which is, of course, all that the "hack" of Pezza's account was. It certainly didn't serve any other purpose.

In my opinion, people should be encouraged to distinguish themselves and be a part of Bungie History in one way and one way only -- by positive contributions to the Community. This hacker should be deleted from existence, just like the carefully crafted and time-tested threads, representing hundreds of hours of work, that he had the gall to destroy.

So no, I do not want to see an official timeline of "major forum events" unless it consists of the following:

1. Original site goes up.
2. New Hawtness goes up.
3. New New Hawtness v.2 goes up.
4. Present day.

Looks at Fomans ideas.
Some other good things, would be inductions of the mods, and the user influenced removal of VIIToast.

Your explanation is a Valid one Foman, and in the situation of Pezz's account, yes this person is going to get more representation if his actions were put up on display by an official Microsoft gaming company.

The community wasn't that effected. Yes some threads were deleted, (I don't know if they we restored yet) but its not going to make the community self destruct. If anything it makes the community stronger. Maybe some members have learned that they will be swiftly dealt with once they cause any trouble in the forums, big or small.

I don't think this 'hacker's doings being displayed would cause more inappropriate behavior from other members. The mods are most likely upping their security and vigilance for these kinds of things, making sure nothing like this will happen so dramatically again. Because all that really happened was some dramatic hype about the situation. I think most the members panicking made it crazy.

I really just want the community to realize how far they have come from the original creation of B.net, and the way we have effected it, both positively and negatively. If we only include positive things in the time line, we are making a false time line!

We shouldn't let this 'incident' make us forget all the great things we have done to make B.net what it is today.

Sorry to bump this, =[ but I want to know what other people think about the subject of a time line. It got pushed to the second page because alot of topics had been locked.

Major events in the forums? Hmmmm.

As soon as we have anything that can be distinguished from the output of the mythical "infinite number of monkeys", then I might be in favor of keeping a log/history.

Come to think of it, we're pretty close to a real implementation of that mental exercise.

We have already got a large number of primates with keyboards. And yet, we still haven't even come close to Shakespeare. Odd.

lol, ooga booga!

I Think bungie has more than enough information to put up a fatty timeline of B.nets online history.

It would just be something to add to the 7th column. Something for the members to look back on and say, "Hey, I was there!"

Strange evolution how people have come to believe
That we are it's greatest achievement
We're barely, we're just a collection of cells
Overrating themselves

No offense to the OP, but in the grand scheme of Bungie, The Day The "Do You Like Girl Gamerz LOL" Thread Reached 50 Pages means nothing.

Besides, what is important to you or I, isnt all that important to someone else.

I'm sure if an event of significant magnitude took place in the forums, Bungie would find a nice place for it in its history. If you dont see, it means it wasnt important enough.

I beg to differ. I remember the thread where several hundred members joined together to perform Hamlet one word per post. It was beautiful, especially since not a single spammer posted anything in the thread to ruin it. Of course, right before the denouement I woke up, and realized such a thing was absolutely impossible.

You know, I'm really glad that I decided to join this forum - you get some quality jokes from various peeps, and now education about monkeys pretending to be human featuring men with awesome sideburns. (too lazy to link, check the evolution section)

Fantastic!

We're going to make a giant can opener, and open a giant can of whoop-ass!

A Bungie timeline, not forum-wise, but game-wise is much more interesting i guess..
