How do you take a gamertag off one account and put it on another here?

  • 07.09.2007 1:39 PM PDT

You have to link the gamertag to the new Windows live ID for the new account, I think.

Hobo is correct.
I linked my Gamertag to Xbox.com using my .NET Passport, but since then, I've gotten a new account and a new Gamertag. How do I get my new 'tag linked, so I can access the My Livesection of Xbox.com?

Dear Messed,
It's a kind of back-ass-wards way to do it, but nevertheless, there is a way to make it happen. Since you can't unlink a Gamertag from a .NET Passport, you need to link the Gamertag to a different .NET Passport:

* Create a new .NET Passport account. Just use some Hotmail throwaway e-mail.
* Link the old Gamertag to the new .NET Passport account. This frees up the link from the old Gamertag to the old .NET Passport.
* Link your new Gamertag to your old .NET Passport account.

Here's the thing. I am linking it to an older account. The email is expired, meaning I can't log on to it. Can I still use that email?

I am pretty sure you can, but I am not positive.

I don't think so. Because you have to verify that it's yours, and I think you have to log into it at least once.

I explained this once to the some guy at 1-800-4MY-XBOX and he refused to believe or acknowledge that it could be done.

No... I need to change the email correct? Well everytime I try to login to my friggen gamertag account on the live site, it tells me I have to create a gamertag... which I did a long time ago. Then it takes me into making a whole new account. WTF

I always hated the way xbox.com was set up with that. Try calling 1-800-4MYXBOX. Explain your problem to them.

So how would I log onto my gamertag on the xbl site anyways? Does it ask everyone who ever wants to log on to make a new GT?

EDIT: EVERYTIME I TYPE IN XBOX.COM IT TAKES ME STRAIGHT TO THE -blam!- MAKE A GT SCREEN!
This -blam!-s rediculous.

Reset your browser. It takes you there based on internet history.

You may still be logged in to the passport network on the wrong identity. I have two that I use for different sites and sometimes if I log into Bnet on the wrong one that has not created a profile here I'll get stuck because it won't let me sign out here. It keeps trying to walk me through the process of making an account. I normally have to go to a different site to sign out and then come back. It would be nice if there was an easier way around it here.
