When i get host everyone is happy because Americans are always 1 bar off full green CONSTANTLY. My connection is stable and does not go up and down depending on whats happening in the game.

BUT when 90% of Americans get host it sucks ASSSSSSSS. My connection will be ok up until an important part of the game when i start shooting people and then my connection as well as the rest of my team (and some of the other teams) goes down almost to yellow bar. It becomes laggy as hell and impossible to play on. Then as soon as i die the connections get a bit better.... Its not standby, its just terrible American internet that obviously can't take the heat of the bandwidth requirements.

Get off crappy dial up over there and get decent internet! We should not have to suffer because you dont want to pay for anything other than budget Quik E Mart dial up.

LMFAO... OMG man, U have No idea how lucky you americans are. Im from New Zealand. Our connection speeds truely suck. Most games I am just beyond, if not, Yellow barring, and Quite often, I find myself red barring. I CANNOT host. And I have recently had another problem. I cannot join ANY parties, unlease they are open. Despite recieving Invs, It continuously says the party is closed, Despite it actually stating its on INV only, and players saying the same thing.

Actually i am English. And i have 24mb down and 2.5mb up. I can host rock solid 16 man servers, but for some reason Americans tend to get it over me a lot. And their internet is sucky and unstable to the game goes from good to bad depending on whats happening (firefights ect).

I sometimes find that if theres a lot happening and firefights are around i will drop to yellow bar. But on my host that never happens. I just think its really unfair that i have to suffer with lagg when i pay for a supreme connection.

  • 07.10.2007 4:33 AM PDT

Well, don't forget that the further you are away from other players, the lower the quality of your connection to them.

By the way, who the hell provides 2.5mbit up in England and how much is it?

I also find it funny how Americans seem to be playing 24/7. I play in the morning deliberately to get more Europeans and theres still loads of them on.

And why is it only Americans?

You just killed yourself! You blame the problem on "terrible" American internet, then you say get off crappy Dial-up. It's not the American internet, it's the dial-up. Maybe in whatever country you live in, they don't have dial-up. Well, lucky you. Not everyone here can upgrade when you want us to.

Its not American Conection, its just that your far away from them.

I live in Korea, and our connection does suck here. I never get host and i lag a lot too, its just im far away and my connection barely holds up.

I know about latency and i can understand that. But what i hate is when host is given to an unstable connection that cant host a good solid game all the way through. I would rather be on yellow bar the whole game than be jumping up and down from green bar to yellow depending on whats happening around me.

And my internet company is Bethere broadband. i am on annex M with them and the upload is huge ;).

I just dont understand why it wont give host to the better connection all the time. I play on some American connections and they are brilliant. But its just the majority of the time that we get lumbered with impossible lagg. And then at the end of the game the connections all go back up to green bar and the other team has no idea of how much it was lagging.

try www.speedtest.net and click the server nearest to you. It will calculate your upload and download speed.

Ok, here's another solution. ATTENTION EUROPEANS! MOVE TO AMERICA! You do realize what latency is, right? You have to send information across the pond and back, of course the connection is going to be slower. So, move to America, or only play with people in or around your country.

I just had a look. That's very impressive, though a bit more than I can justify for my own needs. Are you close to the exchange?

Well, there's certainly a fault of the matching system in that it puts you in a random pool of English-speaking players by preference - that's how it looks to me, anyway. So that's why we're likely to get into a game with 7 americans, rather than with each other. And because of the distance (latency AND dropped packets etc.), the system decides that you aren't the best connectivity with respect to all (or the majority) of the other players in the game. One more thing is that the connection quality isn't everything, you get a hosting record which I think tracks the number of times you quit and stuff like that.

Don't quote me on this, this is just an educated guess based on what I DO know.

My last thread: Why Reach Sucks

<3 Foman

i have higher than average at 22000mbps down and 2-3 mbps up. But you're complaining as if you're not over seas. America, continentally has the highest average connection speed in the world. Japan has the highest for any country though. www.speedtest.net

Hmm, abandon my entire life and up sticks to another continent for the sole purpose of video gaming, or..... just make sure bungie understands the importance of matching players locally.

Yeah... I'll stick with the second if it's all the same to you.

its ok i used it 25% of the time but when someone used it on me thats when i started calling him a n00b and a modder and how i was going to give him negative feedback you sissy needler user.

i dont know what i have. but i got a wireless high speed internet DSL. any idea what the speed connection might be? but i know that when i play i get no lag so thats good. exept when someone in the rooms has lag. that just pisses me off a lot.

Actually South Korea does OFFICIALLY. Its the only country in thew world that you can get gigabit fiber. So get your facts right. I am not complaining about latency. I know all to well what it is. I am saying that American upload bandwidth must be really poor because in games that they host the connections go up and down depending on whats going on in the game. Its really poor that they cannot host a stable 8 man server. Especially seeming as i can host 16 players on stable green bar. I am saying that i wish i didn't have to play with people across the pond. Thats why i am playing in the morning because its very late night in the US. But nooooo, there are still thousands of American players on getting host with their poor unstable connections.

Sort it out bungie, give host to the people that can actually host STABLE and DECENT servers.

I could go and post screenshots as evidence. But i cant be bothered. But take my word for it, american servers in general are unstable (go up and down). Whereas when me and my friends host its always stable for them. Just seems really one sided to me!

I know the difference between latency, and poor connections. Sometimes i can admit that latency is to blame and thats ok. But i cant stand it when i start the game on green bar, then slowly go up and down (green to yellow). Especially seeming as a pay good money for my internet and xbox live.

errr.............no lets not.

Im perfectly happy with the country i live in and the life ive got thanks. Your suggestion of moving to another country for the sole reason to play a video game is somewhat bizarre. And as for your other suggestion of playing locally with people in or around the UK, im pretty sure the last time i checked that bungie does not match people up this way. Before you say it, i actually wanna play MM in ranked games and not custom games............thanks

I am highlighting a huge problem with the Halo 2 system.

Interestingly enough in the Halo 3 beta i got host 95% of games. I just hope the full game is like that. I dont care who gets host... as long as it is stable. I dont even mind latency as long as it is reasonable.

Its not our fault that you don't live near America. If you hate how 'laggy' our 'dial-up' connections are then why don't you come to America and try our 'dial-up' connections.

P.S. That was sarcasm .
