Subject: Can't join a friend's party... help plz!

First of all, I know how to join and invite people to parties, but I have one particular friend (Let's call him friend A) who whenever I try to join it goes to the "Joining Game" screen and then about 45 seconds later tells me there are network problems.

My other friends can play with friend A, and I can play with my other friends. But I've never been able to play with friend A.

Has anyone else ever experienced this and is there any way to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

NAT. You or friend A need to open the correct ports on your router. Try unhooking your router and connecting straight from the modem. Not sure what ports need to be forwarded, but I'm sue someone on here will post it. You can probably use the search on this site to find it, I have seen it posted before.

I'm not exactly sure I understand. So you're saying that instead of running my internet cable from my router just go straight from my modem? What is forwarding?

Thanks for all your help so far!

If you are on a 360, go to the system blade. Select Networking. Select test Live connection. The last thing it does is test your NAT settings. It should be open. If it says open then have your friend do the same thing. It might be his and not yours.

What if it isn't open? How does one fix it? btw i really appreciate all of your help

If it isn't open, then you have to instruct your router to let xbox live traffic pass freely to the address you xbox uses. All internet traffic has a port number - you need to open, or 'forward' the ports xbox live uses to your xbox. It can be quite involved if you don't know about networking at all. http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm This webpage has a list of routers, select yours from the list. Then select the service (in our case 'xbox 360 live') from the next list, and it will give you detailed instructions on how to do it. The only other thing you need to know is that you must find the IP address your 360 uses - this is the address you are 'forwarding' the ports TO - you can see it in 'edit network settings' in the system blade.

Plugging your 360 direct into your modem and not through the router is a temporary fix for this problem, the NAT process does not happen at all in this situation. You may want to try that first.

And don't forget, the other party may have this problem at their end.

RhythmKiller, thanks for the further info. I went through and switched my NAT to open, but, like you said, it would just as well be on my friend's side as well.

Well I hope this works. thanks everyone for you help

Another way I fixed my NAT problems was just turning Universal Plug n Play on, for the router, haven't had anymore problems since.

Q1.) Yes
Q2.) No idea. Try to turn off your Anti-Virus or tell him to turn his off, reset your connection (pull out modem's power cord for 10 seconds), or turn off your or his firewall.
