For some reason, the server keeps freezing for no apparent reason. I'm not really sure why at this point. The only remedy for when it occurs is to cut the power and start it back up.

It happens. When I was running an MMORPG on a (Redhat 9 GUI) Linux server, I had to do that from time to time.
Yeah, only it has happened 5 times over the last 48 hours.

I think it has something to do with a new network card I installed, since it started after I put it in, and it hasn't frozen since I removed it earlier this morning... maybe it's time to format the hard drive and start again from scratch.

Do the right thing and back it all up first, I know you probably have, but ya lol.

What GUI do you use?

Heh. Actually, that server is (currently) running Windows 2000.

(However, I use KDE on all of my Linux boxes)

I've never worked with K Desktop Environment... How is it?

It's great. When I first got into Linux (Red Hat 7.2!) I used GNOME (as it was the default), but then I saw an option to log into KDE, and I never switched back. KDE 3 was great and KDE 4 is a testament to its greatness.

I guess you use GNOME then?

Yup GNOME was the thing back in the day. lol.

I have been starting to experiment with the Fedora Project.

"Starting" meaning I have just got the cd's out of the case lol!

When I use IE I'm so lost without my mod-stalker. It's just become a part of my b.net experience. But I swear that there are new mods everyday.

This could come in handy. Many thanks to jmh9072 for this, and to Yoozel for informing me. What a neat form of justice to those who break it. By the way, I agree. It does seem like more and more mods come quite frequently.

How many computers do you have?
Heh. Several. :D

I don't get rid of old computers unless they don't work anymore and a fix is out of the question.

Several is an understatement. You should see his house. If you're not careful, you'll sit on some moldy old laptop when you take a plop on the couch. I've done it before.

They're all old. They can barely run the calculator program. I don't see why he wants them. Probably practice so he doesn't BLUE SCREEN ANYBODY ELSE'S COMPUTER!!

Oh, I haven't forgotten. And the only thing that will make me forgive you is the new uStalker. When's the ETA?

I'm sure it's somewhere. It has been about 4 months since the original concept, and about as long since I wrote the basic code for it. Note that development is slow when you have other things to work on. Also, preview.

No guarantee that it looks anything like that anymore, jmh9072 has had the code for a while now and might have reworked alot of it or changed the UI since I sent it to him.

Think of the wait like a wait for a new bungie.net update. All you're guaranteed is that it will happen eventually, when it's ready, and that it will be great.

Also, everyone should have lots of computers. Sitting here typing this I'm simultaneously working on a second computer of mine and connected to one of my servers. It's fun having machines you can mess around with without grand consequence and no one threatening to murder you when you accidentally 'dd if=/dev/zero/ of=/dev/sda' the thing or crash the machine.

Meh, I saw that in like October. JMH is slow as hell, I've known he's supposed to be working on this for quite some time. The only thing I know is I suggested a new feature option to him, and he agreed on it. Since then, I don't even know what's happening.

He's probably just busy. If I wasn't busy I'd ask him for the current working source and finish it. It's not a complex piece of code, and it's a relatively small program.

Also, in order to upgrade to the new version he needs to switch from the current Windows server to a Linux server, which, while relatively simple, takes a decent amount of time to get up and running.

Nope, not busy, just lazy. He literally told me himself, "I've had time, I just didn't do it."

We were discussing one day at my house how CAVX was slow with scripts sometimes (no offense CAVVY-POO) and I mentioned how lazy he was. The conversational train promptly moved a different route. No, he might've worked on it. But he hasn't spent the time on it that he could've.

  • 12.16.2008 7:22 PM PDT

$x='print chr(36),"x=",chr(39),$x,chr(39),";\n",$x; ';
print chr(36),"x=",chr(39),$x,chr(39),";\n",$x;

I work at Microsoft. I have nothing to do with Halo and nothing I say is "the official word".

Still can be hard to get to coding if you just don't feel like it =/

They can be useful if you put a lightweight Linux distro on them. Also, the bluescreen was the result of a (wrong) default value in your BIOS that caused the system to look for a RAID device when one was not present. No one could have seen that coming. And I fixed it, then bought you Dairy Queen... what more could you want? I'm never fixing your computer ever again. Something unexpected always happens.

I don't remember the conversation going exactly like that. More like, "I've had time, but I always feel more like relaxing for a couple of hours after everything else I've done during the day." If you want to call that lazy, then go right ahead. I might even agree with you to an extent. (Oh, and some of my "free" time has gone to trying to get the LEDs to work properly on my router under dd-wrt)

Yeah. Although I don't think I'm going to run it off of a server in my house anymore. Details below...

Okay, everyone. Here's a (relatively) quick progress update. Christmas break is coming up, so I'm really going to try my best to finish everything up during my time off from school. Here's my plan:

12/20/08 - 1/02/09: Finish up the majority of the code. Minor bugfixes will be made throughout the rest of January.
1/20/09: Renew domain name; buy web hosting at the same time. Upload finished code.
1/24/09: Start 7-day countdown to release. Update DNS to reflect the change in IP. Begin transferring account information into the new database. Note: This means that you will not be able to change anything in your profile during this time. Please make any changes before this date. Additionally, if you haven't done anything to your account (e.g. you are still stalking the default 5 people), your account will be deleted at this time.
1/27/09: By this time, cached DNS records should have been updated. If they haven't been updated in your neck of the Internet, you will be given instructions to fix this.
1/30/09: Official planned release date.
