Freaky but awesome.

:(

Seems like the webteam removes more useful information from the profile pages with every update...

First, the time was removed from "Last Active," and now "Last Post" no longer has it...

The two options at this point are to use the search feature to find a user's last public post, load that page, locate their post, and parse the time from there, or to create an "opt-in" script/service that will give us up-to-the-minute "I'm online!" information.

I'll probably end up going with both, since the latter is something I've wanted to do for a long time... If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know.

I wonder when it will be fixed or is it done for good? It is helpful when you have a question about posting or if you see a serious issue that needs to be handled by a moderator. Sometimes one might want to post something and what forum it should go into can be in that grey area. When in doubt ask, a moderator.

I will attempt a fix soon.

I am a Floodian

I would like to get a fix soon because it's pretty frustrating when I would like to message a moderator but I have no idea if anyone is even on.

Sadly this won't reveal if a user has posted in a group. There are some moderators that visit their groups and post regularly within them and yet rarely post in the public forums.

I totally understand. I can probably get a temporary fix done tonight, but it would only show the last DAY they logged in (that's as much information as profile pages tell us now). So... you could tell if a moderator has logged on today.

The real fix is a little more involved, and I don't really have time to do it at the moment. When I get a chance, I'll do it. Until then, you can just use the report button (which you should anyway -- the mod stalker should just be your second line of defense in case you an immediate response). :-/

What about changing it to "Last day posted"? It would be a little better than nothing right?

"Last Active" is better than "Last Forum Post". If they login and don't post then last active will catch it. The other will not.

However, neither of them is precise enough to be useful.

Yes, that's the workaround I was talking about earlier in the thread. The only problem (as TOM T pointed out) is that posts in groups do not show up in that list.

It is possible to commit no errors and still lose. That is not a weakness. That is life.

Cheeto is the only one among you that doesn't suck.

This whole things sounds creepier than... How do you even track when they posted in a group?

  • 09.30.2009 6:05 PM PDT

Update: The temporary fix is live. The site will now display whether someone has logged in today.

Profile pages on the site used to tell the exact time someone last posted, whether it was in a group or on the public forums. Actually, before that they even used to say the last time someone loaded a page anywhere on the site... but alas, those days are gone.

Indeed. I haven't had XBL for a long time, but I still come on her everyday.

So. Much. Gold!

I appreciate the effort, though.

Well then. I thought it was just being weird on my end, but after reading through this I can see that its just the way the thing works for now. Good luck with the fix.

A moderator that didn't read the thread to find out the problem? Preposterous!

The current system up is a temporary fix that displays if the moderator was on in the past day, which is the best jmh can do, since even more of the necessary data was taken away from the profile page. There are only two other options to get it more accurate, and one will require time and will not be able to tell if the moderator posted in a group or not (and cannot display it if he does), and the other will be able to show everything, but will require willing participation from all moderators.

As this is a very delicate situation, I'm sure you can understand why this temporary system has gone up in the meantime. I'm sure jmh will do his best to get the next-best system up soon, and following that, the ideal system that will require moderator participation, if possible.

Does this thing stalk me even when I go to the bathroom?

I'm typing this, on my phone, in my bathroom.

Ahhh, technology :)

It would be interesting if ModStalker could tell you from where the person last posted.

But yes, technology is starting to become creepy.

I agree, one of these days it just may happen to be able to state the present location you are when you post to forums. If so... I can wait a while...
