i want to run a dedicated server on halo that is on hang 'em high and uses a custom gametype i created called (------!n$@n!ty------). so nmy init.txt file looks like this:

sv_name insanity
sv_public True
sv_maxplayers 16
sv_password
sv_mapcycle_timeout 15
sv_mapcycle_add hangemhigh (------!n$@n!ty------)
sv_mapcycle_begin

is that how it should look? and then all i do is click on the haloded icon and its runing? cause its not showing up.

The very first thing is too change the name of that map to something similar. too much of a chance one of those symbols will be a reserved character. Second, when your using a custom map you need to save the map to \Halo\cg\savegames on the server. If it is not in there it won't run the map

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Actually Igg, some hosts put it in a different spot than "cg".

As far as the gametype goes, if you're running the server on your local computer, custom gametypes are in "My Documents\My Games\Halo\savegames".

If you use a firewall or router, you may need to forward certain ports for people to connect to your server. Check out this article on Halomaps.

okay i changed the server name to !!!!!!!insanity and the gametype name to insanity. so my init.txt file looks like this, after i
learned i had to put quotes around a custom gametype name.

sv_name !!!!!!!insanity
sv_public True
sv_public 1
sv_maxplayers 16
sv_password
sv_mapcycle_timeout 10
sv_mapcycle_add hangemhigh "insanity"
sv_mapcycle_begin

so i start it up and after it repeats the status of the server i can see there are people in it. but it does not show up when i click "get list." i opened up ports 2302 and 2303. what do I have to do to get it to show up on the list, and play on it? and if i have to do something, please tell me how to do it. i just started using the dedi server.

PS i am using the full retail version of halo, not halo CE.

If you have Halo PC installed, you do not need to download the dedicated server map files. You also want to be running version 1.07 since as far as I know people can't use the gamespy lobby to find your game otherwise. So you first download server version 1.0.2, and then the 1.07 update. Just put the new haloded.exe in your Halo Dedicated Server folder.
