If I'm correct, don't you need a Gold Account to create your own online servers when using Live.

And not to mention, not everybody has a credit card, or online banking, so getting a Gold Account - whether it be cheap, is not available to those people. Unless theres another way to get a Gold Account. Like in WoW you have to go to a game shop and pay $15 for a serial key.

The days of free online gaming are coming to an end. You can either accept it, or only play the free games (which are becoming less and less).

I'd rather pay for a service that lets me play any game on it, rather than pay to play just one game like WoW.

It's people like you that the gaming market loves. You're the reason why they move on ahead with online gaming fees for PC games now, and you're also living proof that you're not bothered by it, simply because you believe "change is good."

Yeah. People like me that are willing to pay $50.00 a year to play any game on 360 over live and live enabled games over PC. You do realize that is only 14 cents a day! If that's to much for an online gaming service, then Maybe you need to get a job.

You're new here, so I'll give you some leniency.

First, I have a job. I also graduated high school some time ago, got kicked out, and now live with my girlfriend while I go to college, so as far as the "Daddy can't give you enough money" argument goes, it doesn't.

Second, there are countless of other services that offer what Live offers and MORE for FREE. Not only is it required for you to buy a completely new upgrade for Windows to play this game, you're also forced to sign up for a service just to play custom maps or run a server on the same computer you're on.

I also take it you're not a long-standing HCE player, so that's also forgiven, but the HCE play is FREE and I can run a server on the same computer, all the while being able to play custom maps, because let's face it, the only reason there were any sales at all for H2V were either:

a) You took a chance and thought "what the hell, the Xbox version was good"
b) You're a die-hard fan
c) You were part of the HCE community, were intrigued by being able to bring in custom material to H2, and decided to join on in

Guess who are the people who feel let down when they find out they need to get a subscription fee for something that was already free in the first place?

And this doesn't even cross the threshold of how Live shouldn't even touch the PC. It's an Xbox service for God's sakes. If Microsoft wants to capitalize on the gaming market this badly, then they should have just bought Xfire. Hell, if they had did that, they would've still gotten away with a yearly fee to use Xfire and millions would still use it and pay that fee. At least with Xfire you're not forced to upgrade to the next OS and you're not limited to Live games.

Then again, Microsoft was never very notorious for jumping on the ball for online services. They're just as bad as Macintosh and their iTV and their soon-to-have-the-same-fate iPhone.

Jobs have nothing to do with it. If you are willing to fork over 50 bucks for a piece of s-hit service like Live... go for it.

I can afford all the gaming services I want, I however do not feel that this garbage service deserves a dime.

MMO's like everquest and WOW, with dynamic environments, new player content , outstanding service, and real value for the money I support.

This? AW HELL NO.

Valve has the right idea, they implemented a MASSIVE player content system that is free and fairly useful, after the initial bugs were worked out.

M$ is trying to pinch off them and make their, own, cept there is one inherent flaw.

M$ wouldnt know customer service if it walked up, bit them on the freaking grapes and gave them a business card.

Now that you mentioned it. It seems that Microsoft is trying to bring the console to the PC. Probably because the XBOX 360 sux (for what I've read about it anyways - and I have played it once before).

First; I noticed that they completely f**ked up the KB&M user capabilities for H2V (made the mouse sensitivity slower and other problems, and the game has some XBOX GUI in it) while giving users with a controller a "near perfect console experience" (giving them auto-aim, and adjusting the joystick sensitivity and game GUI to make it feel as though they are playing on a console).

And second of all, they are now bringing a console related "Live" feature to the PC???, and forcing us to pay for it just to get a few extra features when we can get BETTER features on say Steam or xfire with BETTER customer support, and is FREE to use.

Whats next??? Windows Vista Service Pack 1 - XBOX Edition???

i will admit, that with the xbox 360 system, games, system, live subscription, vista, and then the power bill to run my computer, charging for online play on H2V does seem a little over the top from MS. granted they dont get my power bill (yet), they do get the $1500+ in games i have now and another $200 for Vista. They should definately make games for windows live free. But then again, everything is about money these days...
and , as an afterthought, they get the money from the 360 that i bought, and if i decide to buy their next system, they will get that also. plus the games for that.

The 360 doesn't "suck". It's just not nearly as good as a half decent PC. The only real reason I bought a 360 were for the games that aren't making the leap to the PC market. I don't even have a Live account, although that may change once I find myself an ethernet cable that's long enough to stretch from my router to the console upstairs...

Steam = an absolute joy to use.

You can copy your entire steam directory to any pc and BOOM! all your games are there, dont even need to run an installer, and Valve is perfectly fine with you doing that!

Live = an buggy interface that we are forced to use that has problems registering, has a suck ass interface and will more than likely deter more customers than it attracts.

And Steam wasn't always like that, either. It has improved by leaps and bounds since I first started using it way back when I had to switch from WON to it. I can't say that Xbox Live has improved by a comparable margin despite how many folks coughing up their $50 p[er year.

You're new here, so I'll give you some leniency.

Yeah. I've only been posting on Bungie.net since Nov. 04, but I guess that's pretty new.....

First, I have a job. I also graduated high school some time ago, got kicked out, and now live with my girlfriend while I go to college, so as far as the "Daddy can't give you enough money" argument goes, it doesn't.

I was using the "get a job" comment to get the point across that 14 cents is cheap. I didn't need to know your lifes history.

Second, there are countless of other services that offer what Live offers and MORE for FREE. Not only is it required for you to buy a completely new upgrade for Windows to play this game, you're also forced to sign up for a service just to play custom maps or run a server on the same computer you're on.

You were not forced to do anything. You CHOSE to buy a new operating system. You CHOSE to buy the game. You CHOSE to pay for the service. No gun was to your Head.

I also take it you're not a long-standing HCE player, so that's also forgiven, but the HCE play is FREE and I can run a server on the same computer, all the while being able to play custom maps, because let's face it, the only reason there were any sales at all for H2V were either:

You are correct. I played Halo PC when it first came out, but the net code sucked so I played Halo on my xbox over XBC for many, many years.

Actually it's an MS service. If they chose to make it available to PC they can. They are trying to bring together 2 communities so that they can game together. I for one, think it's a good idea. Then I don't have to buy a game twice to play in either place.

I haven't read the whole thread, but...

Should Halo 2 online be free

Well, considering it's a 3 year old port, that makes users upgrade to vista, doesn't take advantage of any vista features, makes us use a crappy live UI, can't play against xbox people, has very limited in-game options, very limited map editor, has a full $50 price tag, and filled with bugs... I don't know how Microsoft came up with the idea of charging people to fully play online.
