Ok, so Ive been playing and trying to get better, but it seems sometimes I get worse.

Is there a good way to improve? I saw the sticky that linked you to the guides lingk page for each map but every link would just take me to the page that has the link I just clicked on.

So hit me with any guides links you have, or tips or whatever. And feel free to call me noob cause I already know.

Noob.

Just kidding, it takes guts to admit you need help instead of blaming everyone else, host and button glitches for your losses.

The first piece of advice I can give you is that you stop playing with other bad players and get some really good players on your FL. Playing with bad players isnt going to make you any better at all. Also, you need to stop playing noob gametypes if you are playing them (zombies, tremors, ect.). I know this sounds cliche' but you need to get as good as you can at MLG. Playing MLG will teach you great teamwork, strategy, communication, map control and how to deal with tense situations in a frentic gametype. IT WILL MAKE YOU BETTER.

Secondly, id advise you to learn EVERY square inch of each map. Find out where each weapon is, each OS and invisibility and their respawn times. This will partly go with your MLG training because youll learn several maps inside and out while playing it. Dont just learn weapon locations though, you need to learn where any wall glitches may be, where the spawns are in each situation, best routes to run a flag/bomb/ball and anything else that may give you an advantage. Luck favors the prepared.

Third. This one is just gonna take expirence. You need to master each and every weapon. You need to be able to feel comfortable with any weapon you pick up on the map. Wether it be dual-weilding an SMG/Pistol, BR/PP combo or just having a BR and a sniper youll need to know each and every limitation you have and adapt to that. This is going to require hand-eye coordination though, either you have it or you dont.

I hope this helps, but in the end youre just going to have to keep pushing yourself to get better. NEVER settle for second best and youll be supprised at what you can do. Results will not come easily and its a hard road ahead but you can make it if you keep going.

I think double team is good practice. You need to find a friend that is decent at the game and willing to help you a bit. Go into Double team and focus on sticking together and more importantly working together to get kills and protect each other. Everything that Kevin said is also right. Getting good with the BR has got to be a priority. Get yourself to the point where a single weilder can never kill you, then graduate to out BRing dual, then eventually out BRing other BR's and snipers.

So true. Regardless of how games go in your favor or not, if you challenge yourself and expand your limits. You will get better with experience

I think finding the right group of people to play with and against might be the best idea. Do you play alone? Thought about a clan? Maybe just a firend that is always on. In team games, knowing what your teamates are doing and thinking is just as important as shooting the enemy in the head.

Best way is to play against/with some good people like me so their abilities leach on to you.

You can run. But you will only die tired.

Excellent posts everyone.

...Good luck and don't call yourself a "noob". Everybody was a noob at one point in their lives..

I was never a noob.
lol, jk. If you want, you can send me a friend request and I can take you around some levels and try to help you get to know some MLG strategies. I'm not the best in the world, but I know what I'm talking about seeing as I could probably navigate the Halo 2 levels blindfolded. The only way to get better is to play. Work on 1 weapon at a time if you can, most importantly the Battle Rifle. Get your aim locked down with that. Also, from the get-go, make sure that you strafe when you fire (move left and right) and duck in a non-patternized manner. Once you get good at this you're life expectancy goes way up. But other than those things, all you can do is put in more time. Like anything else, practice makes perfect.
(BTW, my gamertag is HJ ToughGuy, feel free to send me a friend request.)

EDIT: and just for the record, I'm really impressed with all the people who responded. Not a single bit of flaming. Maybe these forums arn't as far gone as I thought.

You think it got what it takes to be..?.

God forbid you send me one of those I was checking for cool gamers and saw you messages too, I will scream to the top of my lungs and smash this damn screen/BlackBerry to pieces! You've been warned -_-

Play the game on legendary. (maybe Heroic). Get used to the quick reflexes and the high tempo and pressure.

I appreciate all the constructive posts.

I have kept going at it, just nice to know that Im not missing something. I even keep going when other people who are a lot better than me quit the match when we are down. I'll just keep doing that and try to pay more attention to learning the maps. I do have a freind that is pretty good, I just feel like a burdon when he gets 30 of the required kills to win and I die more than I kill.

If you guys want to school me some, my gamertag is Technohic.

Also....Noob question. What is MLG?

There's a ceiling for most players. At some point you just can't get better due to reflexes, hand eye coordination, w/e. I remember before the ranks reset I was between 31-33 for like 5 months. Sometimes there's nothing you can do

Ill tell you what. Since you seem so sincere about getting better ill get you started. Send me a FR at GodofDeathKB.

I run a huge MLG clan and ive trained and developed some of the best players on XBL. taking lessons from me isnt easy and youll have to work hard but you can ask anyone in my clan or anyone that ive ever taught or trained and they will tell you its worth it. I have a few simple rules that ill tell you if youll send me a PM telling me that you want my help. I dont feel this forum is the right place to discuss training, but im always willing to help anyone that is dedicated to getting good at this game.

BTW: Forget campaign. There are so many factors that change when you get on XBL from campaign. Itll just confuse you more. If you play on Legendary youll find that the enemies take more shots to kill than they do on XBL and your shields arent as effective. Plus youre facing alot more enemies and your enemies are far too predictable. You need to play XBL to get used to the predicting the movments of real-life players. You need to be able to stay one step ahead. The reason ive been so good at MLG isnt because of a nasty BR or because I can BxR everything in sight or even quad-shot, its because I know the maps inside and out, play smart and I rely on teamwork and strategy as well as outsmarting the other team. Things are alot easier when you play so smart that you can make the other team do exactly what you want them to do.

KB is right. I am still new to the clan and already my game has improved. Playing with the calibur guys they have in that clan is the best way to get good.

Its hard to teach me in game I would guess. I have 3 kids and a fiance at home so I normally only use the headset when they are out of the house, otherwise, I need to be able to hear whats going on in the house. I typically get about an hour of play each night with a mugh longer paly time again when they are out of the house.

I do really want to get better but just thought I should mention the outside dificulties I have. Hell, last night I started doing decent on team slayer with magnums until my fiance got in front of the TV and mooned me. lol

I guess in short, i would love for you to train me, I just cant say when I wil be able to get in on the headset exactly.

No offense but that explains alot. You just need to tell them that this is something that you want to do. Your fiance is just gonna have to not stand in front of the TV and youre gonna have to be able to talk and be focused. If you cant do that then I hate to say it but there is no hope....

Yeah, its an ongoing struggle. I do get real focused, thats why I got mooned. I do get times where I am in on the headset and able to talk and yeah, it makes things a lot easier when you can hear whats going on.

I gotta keep the balance though between RL and the game.

  • 07.12.2007 9:52 AM PDT

Personally, I'd think the best way to improve is to improve your skill with every weapon, not just 1 or 2 of them. I think the best asset in a player is being able to fight competently with any weapon given on the map - because you don't always have the option of getting a sniper, rockets, sword, battle rifle, etc.

the thing is i have played a lot of customs with my clan and my ex clan (fbi the agency) the thing is now it seems like no matter how much i play i dont get any better and yet i have only had xbox for about 5 months and i can do some damage most of the time people just own me and the only reason i have a decent level is because i play with people that do the majority of the work. So i have no idea what to do to get better.

  • 07.12.2007 12:27 PM PDT

play campagne at high lv ,play team S.W.A.T. and rumble pit (halo2 challenge, better opponents) study maps, weapon spawns and tactics for moving around maps quicker, learn to bxr.
Then you'll get better but you'll still be limited by your own personal ability, you cant beat your genes...............
