RIP Halo 2.

Play MLG customs with good people. You will get better. Maybe even ask them to help point out what you're doing wrong, show you the different parts of the maps, basic strats, etc. But MLG customs are a great way to train with the BR and get a good feel for the game.

I think that the best thing you can do at this point is find a group of good players and stick with them in Halo 2, building your chemistry and confidence for the release of Halo 3. You should focus on practicing things that will still be useful in Halo 3. Not only will these things be useful in Halo 3, but they are even more important than anything else you could learn. Teamwork is the most important skill in Halo. If you're comfortable with the people you are playing with and every person knows each other's strengths and weaknesses you'll do well. Practice teamwork, supporting your teammates, call-outs and coordination. You could practice with Carbines, BRs and the sniper rifles to improve your aim for Halo 3, but the most important thing is to find a good team and work on your teamwork until you are calling out every enemy by habit and you always have each other's backs and have good chemistry between the members of your team. Hope this helps.

Ok, so Ive been playing and trying to get better, but it seems sometimes I get worse.

Is there a good way to improve? I saw the sticky that linked you to the guides lingk page for each map but every link would just take me to the page that has the link I just clicked on.

So hit me with any guides links you have, or tips or whatever. And feel free to call me noob cause I already know.

Play against people better than you. Read helpful game guides that intelligent gamers write.

Someone may need to lazy link these for me but anyway.

On the mlg website they have what is called 'A newcomers guide to Halo'.

It goes over all the crucial points of things to focus on which everyone serious about halo should know and learn. I have found them incredibly helpful, I'll post a seperate link for each part. I strongly recommend giving them a read.

I use two profiles. One has 6 sensitivity and vibration on. Other has 5 and vibration off. I find I play better without vibration and with a smoother sensitivity. Playing without vibration takes some getting used to, but it will make your aim steadier (imo).

I hear ya' there, Technohic.. It's tough to get as proficient as you know you can be when there are other priorities. I remember the sweet days of being able to sit my butt down and play for hours.. now with a family (wife and 2 kids) it's not always possible. When I do get a chance to play it's like starting from scratch again, very frustrating.

Everything in life is a tradeoff.
Sure, i could be excellent at Halo, but I'd rather spend the time with the kids.

That being said, I still like my Halo MP fix a few times a week and there's no doubt the I'll be getting Halo 3 when it comes out.

Keep the hints and techniques coming folks. I can't compete very well against the people that are proficient at the glitches but I'd at least like to keep my kill/death ratio at a respectable level. (-:

Aim for the head.

How to learn how to do this effectively? While this may not work for everyone, it sure as hell worked for me, and I figure that it's worth your troubles to give it a shot.

Play Team SWAT. A single shot to the head will down an opponent. However, the same is true for you. This teaches you to constantly be on your toes and keeps you always watching your back. It forces you to not rely on your motion sensor, but to rather watch and listen to what is happening in the environment to pinpoint where opponents are. It also sharpens your reflexes a LOT, considering that when you encounter another player, you probably have less than a second to take him down before he takes you out.

Also, learn your weapons, and learn which ones work best in certain situations.

In addition, grenades are CRUCIAL. Not only can you use them to soften up opponents before you start firing at them, but if you down an opponents sheilds, but he rounds a corner or enters a room before you can take him out, grenades come into play. Try and predict where your opponent will run to in that room or hallway, and bounce a grenade off of the wall/doorway/etc. to where you think he is. To practice, run through some maps and start tossing around some frags to see how they bounce, so you can learn how to use them effectively. Opponent rushing up a ramp towards you? Bounce a grenade off of the ground and watch as it explodes in his face.

Most important of all, HAVE CONFIDENCE. If you convince yourself that you're not good enough to win a match, chances are good that you won't.

Watch montages on YouTube. Learn from the pros(but avoid videos by noobs). Watch their tactics, use it in Halo. Watch which weapons they use and how they use them.

well actually, playing with noobs, allows those to get better because leaders emerge eventually.

The MLG guide is great. But if some are interested I would like to do some " training" with some of those who need some "pro" tips. I am not pro but you know what I mean. I dont want money or anything like most lessons. I just want to see if I can make someone better. Hit me up with a friend request with training in the message . LOA RickJames.

Like almost every one has said. The key is BR. But the other most important weapon to get good with is Sniper. When you really get good at sniping you will find that you never ever stop moving and that you never stay in the scope if there is not anyone where you just looked. I would suggest playing team snipers but it is really bad right now because tombstone is about the only map you get and it gets old fast.

Team Work is key. Any one who does not like team work and communication might as well give up winning because they wont win alot at all.

Thanks for the links. I'll give those a good read while at work. lol

I got my hour in last night, and while the stats look bad, I think I got a little better playing H2. On one I had 4 or 5 grenade kills, another I landed 2 sticky medals, but I still got a long way to go.

Funny thing is, most of them I start off looking good. One I was even getting "Took the lead", "Lost the lead", "Took the lead", "lost the lead", and "Tied the leader" for the first half of the match, and then I just fell behind. I have spurts like that a lot and I gotta figure out what I do differently.

if you're good at Halo 2, you are good at Halo 3, its the same gameplay, except for some weapons and the graphics

Its not always popular but in playlists where its turned on watch the motion sensor. This will minimize assassinations/people getting the drop on you.
