A little bit ago I was just testing how fast I could scope and headshot targets on Coagulation. I had one player stationary while I moved the other.

I moved one player to the top of Blue Base, while I put the other one high in the hills behind Red Base. They were both totally visible to eachother with the zoom.

I lined up the headshot (I was controlling the one at Blue Base at this point), but even at 10x magnification, the reticle didn't turn red. I fired. Nothing happened. Thinking it might not actually be on the head, I moved it to the body. It was completely and totally on the body. I fired off a whole round, and hit nothing. I then tried the same thing with the other player. Nothing hit.

I wasn't aware the sniper had a distance cap... does anybody know what it is exactly?

I havn't run into a distance cap, but I usually don't try to snipe litterally all the way across coag.

I think that once the player tries to shoot farther beyond the reticule, the accuracy automatically goes out the window. You could be at 10x magnification and, if the reticule still turns red (or green, depending on what it is you're trying to do) you can kill someone. However, once you move beyond reticule range, your shots become considerably less accurate.

I've noticed it, as well. It's not really a problem for me, though, because I generally don't try sniping people across the map. Maybe it is some kind of system that is designed to stop you from totally monopolizing the game with a sniper.

I've never tried from the back corner to blue, but I know I've sniped someone standing still on blue from the top of red. It's much easier to snipe targets when they are out of the red zone when they are standing still. However I do use a lot of 5x scopes that are in the blue and kill them, most often not a head shot but two body shots, this shows true sniper skill because you have no magnetism when it's blue.

on an occasion in a game of snipers i find myself shooting a sniper dead at someone and the bullet just seems to just vanish and not hit him, usually happens to me on headlong from in a room sniping way across the map, but the only reason i take those shots because i know there dead on.

Yes, the sniper rifle definitely has a distance cap. If you move one player, and watch the sniper bullet zoom by from the side, you can see where it ends. Also, people say that the Particle Beam Rifle has a lower distance cap.
