Halo's Secret
By Joseph R.

Chapter One - The Beginning

As Master Chief ran across the field taking cover from the Covenants artillery from their drop ships, he took a deep breath. He was going into the depths of Hell and walking out again. Knowing he was under fire, he jumped out from his cover and started to run to a forward position when he was approched by a ranking Sergant. The Sergant yelled, not even minding that the plasma from the lasers was falling short of him "Get up Soldiers, we are not going to loose this war. If one thing I know, is that we are not going to slung by these -blam!-es". As he turned around All the soldiers or the USMC started to cheer as the Covenant started to retreat. The Battle Field was quite. It seemed that all was calm. As the soldier started to stand up, the ground began to shake. One Marine under the name of Samuel Brown stood up and said "I think we have just unleashed something the likes of no ones would ever want to see". The marines waited in anticipation not knowing what was coming through the battle field fog. As it turned to night, the ground began to tremble harder, And off to the left flank, the platoon could here the sounds of E platoon crying for help. The sounds of help were not of those the men had heard before, it was as if the men had lost all hope, that the cries were not for help, but for merci instead, and that God would impose whatever was killing them slowly to die and not to be left standing. As morning approched, the -blam!- had cleared to the point of some visibility. D platoon moved out and went to were E platoon was last heard of. There was men every were, yet none of them had any skin. The scene was one of a marines nightmare. Not only that some men were crying, but what ever had done this had left one man alive. They had found him in a foxhole alive but missing his eyes. He kept yelling "Help, Please no, no...". The cries of miserry and desparity were among him, and D platoon just stared. As the medics tended to him, on the horizzan was a cloud of dust. It was unlike anything the marines had seen. Most of the time when the Covenant attacked, it was as if only little elite groups were sent in or at most a few companies. This seemed to be half the Covenant army, and if was heading their way. As the Sergant started to stand up, he was about to give the oreders to move out, something happened to him. His eyes opened wide and he started to breath heavier. Before he could let off another breath, he was on the ground, dead as anything around him. A covenant sniper was amound them. All the men startled for a secound and ran to cover. The canyon behind them suddenly lit up with plasma riffles and they were under fire. LT. Michles started yelling out orders. He told Mark Allison to advance to a tree just a few feet infront of him when he was struck by a single plasma bolt. He layed dead with the expression of sarrow like all the other men they had just seen.
