If its nearly 1 teraflop - or 1 trillion calculations per second, that would make it 3 times more powerful than the 8800, as the 8800 can only reach 330 Gflop - or 330 billion calculations per second.
Plus you would have to be an idiot if your gonna spend close to $1000 on a card to play games at over 120+fps, when you can get a card for $500 that can give you 60+fps. You won't know the difference, as it is a proven fact that you can't see faster than 60fps. It's sort of like a motion blur at those framerates. And I know a lot of you will say its for future games. But hell, by the time those future games come out, you will be upgrading to the next lot of gfx cards.
And I can back up my claim there, as when people bought the 8800, they said they will be using it for future games like Crysis and Bioshock etc, and as you can see they are already planning to upgrade their gfx cards before those games come out. Waste of money imo, mid range cards for the win :-)
But still, those mid range cards being as powerful as the 8800GTS, I might grab me one of those, or wait to see what AMD/ATI brings out. Although I somewhat don't believe it when they say that the mid range cards will be that powerful, cause they said that the 8600GT will be more powerful or close to performing to the 7900GT. The 8600GT only managed to just beat a 7600GT which is twice as slow as the 7900GT.
