Subject: I can't sign into Xbox Live on Halo 2 anymore - help?

I'd die to become immortal,
That's why I play Halo Reach

Alright, here's the problem:

I put Halo 2 into my 360, and it says "An update is available for this game, would you like to download it?" so I click "yes" and it downloads. Then, after the download is finished, instead of Halo 2 starting up, it comes up again "An update is available for this game, would you like to download it?" umm, alright. I click "yes" and it goes again. after it's done, instead of starting it comes up with "An update is available for this game, would you like to download it?". I click no, and Halo 2 starts...

Fix'd? NO

I select my profile and then, instead of listing the gamertags, it shows only the options "Don't sign in" or "register new gamertag"

I don't like those two options. I'd like "Sign in Helljumper44" to come up, but it doesn't. No matter how many times i restart the Xbox 360 or take Halo 2 out and put it back in, this always happens. Help me please.

You have to have that update to play online. It will not allow you to get online until you do so.

First. Re-download the update. It should work this time. If it doesn't, or the thing repeats again. Shut the 360 down and try again. This happened to me. If this doesn't work I have other ideas.

Sorry, but what do you mean "re-download the update"? every time i do, it just comes up again. It's not gonna stop. And i can't re-download the maps if i can't even sign into Xbox Live from Halo 2. I guess my a** is doomed, huh?

How many times have you tried it?

I suggest, if it keeps coming up twice, that you get a new IP address. (Unplug the CATV cable from the back of your Modem and plug it back in...that's the way to do it right? My 360's been broke for a month now...)

This is a bug, no worries. All you have to do is access your Xbox 360 dashboard, go to the Systems blade and select Memory. After that select hard drive and Y for Device Options. At the Device Options screen press X, X, LB, RB, X, X, and then select Yes.

Restart your console and sign into Xbox Live from the dashboard before launching the game. Once the game is launched it will prompt you to update once again, select Yes, and the title should now restart and sign you back into Xbox Live allowing you to now play Halo 2 online. If the problem continues to persist however, feel free to contact the Xbox Live Technical Support Team here for further assistance.

Cryptic, shouldn't you tell him what that does?

I still think getting a new IP address would fix the problem.

All it does is clear the cache. Not too big of a deal.

Going through the procedure I described above will clear your system's cache, meaning delete all Xbox 360 updates you have downloaded so far. It does not delete any content and will only ask you to re download mandatory Xbox 360 updates once again or if you haven't before to access certain individual games when launched, signed into Xbox Live.

RIP Halo 2.

Boot your XBox with no game in it. Sign into Xbox Live with your profile. Start Halo 2 up. It'll prompt you for an update. Let it download and install. You should be good to go from there.

works a treat :D , thanx Wells. Think its because of the 360 update where by it does not sign u into xbox live automatically which is quite annoying. Any1 know how to change this back to automaticaly sign in?
