Unfortunatly, yesterday my xbox360 got the 3 red lights of death. So I went out and bought the recceiver for the computer that allows you to use your wireless xbox360 controller on your pc. Then I went out and bought halo 1. The thing is I was pretty good at halo 1 for xbox. And it seems like my pistol shots never hit the player I am shooting at. Same thing with sniper shots. PLus if i stop and stand still. Sometimes the masterchief, will stop, then like 3 seconds later jerk forward like 5 feet. its very annoying. does anyone else play with the 360 controller? is there any tips on how to get better with the pistol? Also ive downloaded halo custom edition also. which is better to play on? It wont let me join any custom maps on C.E. so ive just been playing the original.

Can anyone comment?

Your experiencing the FPS players worst enemy, lag.

the thing in halo PC is you have to lead your shots in front of your target according to your ping. the higher the ping, the more you lead. lower the ping the less you lead.

try sorting your list by ping and join a low ping server.

I wrote up a nice big thing for you but hit preview instead of submit, then hit the back button on my mouse by mistake and voila - lost it all =(

Can anyone comment on the not being able to play user created maps on custom edition? it says "Not able to join server!"

  • 07.15.2007 10:48 AM PDT

You need to download them prior to playing them. I wish it worked like Counter-Strike where you would automatically download the maps, but unfortunately it doesn't do that. It sucks when you get kicked out of a server because you don't have one of the maps

is there a site where there are a whole bunch of maps to download? or does it depend.

Fight hard, break bones >{o

when i was playing earlier (for my first time) the only time i got lag, it would have the 'bad connection' or whatever symbol and i would freeze for a little bit, but then be fine (no leading required). but im not using a 360 controller so that could be why.

but when i was playing campaign the game locked up on me so i turned down all the video settings, so you might wanna try that. now in campaign it never slows down, so perhaps that will at least help a little (perhaps less to load about other players or something).

I've been there, but when you hit 'Preview' and go back to the previous page, all the text you typed down still appears in your previewed post--you could have simply gone forward a page and all your stuff would have been there, you would have just needed to copy and paste what you typed into the box below the previewed post.

Actually, I'm wrong about that. I remember doing it before the site had an update and this latest layout. God damn, I still hate this POS.

Its latency, lead your shots, and also the 360 controller is horrible for the pc.

Hey, I have dial up, and I'm out of range for anything better. So when I play halo on pc, I get tremendous lag. I'm usually lag-free until the server has more than 4 or 5 people. And when I host a server, I can only have up to 2 players, and I usually lose connection if someone joins. Even though I always shut down any unnecessary background tasks or programs in the task manager, I still get really bad lag. Is there any way to improve my playing conditions until broadband service is available to me? And also, I can't afford Vista, so I can't get Halo 2 for pc. Is there going to be a re-release or something for XP and 2000? I know that some groups are making software available to make it run on older OS's, but not only will that software most likely be as expensive as the game, but Microsoft will also probably trump the software within a couple of months. So I was hoping that there would be a release of Halo 2 for pc on XP/2000 OS's.

It's people like you that are the reason Halo's netcode is the way it is =( lol

but for your problem, I don't know how to help the lag. Plus I doubt we'll see a rerelease of Halo 2

Well our phone company hasn't expanded the range for broadband here in about 3 years, no matter how many times we call. So there's nothing I can do about the dial-up. But would a good video card help with the lag or something? Or are any of the groups that are making software to make Halo 2 run on XP/2000 colaborating with Microsoft or something to keep the software from being trumped out? I just don't see the point in spending that much money and effort to get the game and the software when Microsoft can just release a few updates and keep the software from working. And what do you mean "people like you?"

  • 07.16.2007 10:48 AM PDT

Halo's netcode was changed so that dial-up players can play as well. Thus, we have the unavoidable lag that causes us to lead our shots. That's what I meant.

A good video card can help make things feel consistant, since your frame rate isn't dropping all over the place.

Even though it's not that great, it's better than dial up, it's called satellite, and there are no are restrictions.

Sorry to burst your bubble but satellite does have many restrictions, it sucks horribly at that, it is only one step above dial up, it lags way worse than dial up, can barely join a game, and gives everyone a bad expeirence. So, don't play online with either of them.

Somehow, I feel that satellite + hurricane = not better than dial-up.

this is because of a crappy netcode. you must lead your shots to the player. it takes much gettig used to. i know because i went from halo 1 pc to halo 2 xbox. (i recntly bought mine) and i would always lead my shots but i would get a kill.
