I was playing through Halo on Heroic mode when I noticed that on Two Betrayals, just after the beginning of the Final Run subsection, a small piece of terrain changes randomly each time you run through the level.

Check out the screenshots I took

It's just one boulder that changes. As you exit the tunnel at the beginning of Final Run, run to the left, toward the entrance to the blocked tunnel. Keep to the left of the outcrop of rock with the blue lights on top. I've looked hard but I can't find any other terrain that changes like this. Does anybody know why it's there?

I tried that. Shooting it doesn't make any difference.

The last man on Earth sat in a room, there came a knock at the door.

Service Record

I noticed this as well. On AOTCR, on the last bridge, sometimes there are rocks in the way so you can't snipe out the Elite before he gets into the Banshee, sometimes it's completely open. I think it may do this to add a little variety so you don't play through the level using the same tricks everytime.

If it is to add variety then it's extremely subtle. The changing rock on Two Betrayals is only slightly different; I kept thinking that it was seeing things until I photographed it.
If Bungie built level randomisation into the engine then you would think they would make a bigger deal out of it.

Go AotCR get to the point wher you meet the 2nd Wraith tank (just after you get the scorpion and save the marines). Kill everything so you're safe to walk around. Go towards the opening of the tunnel (where the 2 hunters appear). Take a look the left of the tunnel and you will see an assortment of different shaped rocks.

It is best to notice when you are trying to rocket launch the banshee off the platform. It takes 2 shots to get it down. One from the standing on top of a tank on the ridge to the right and the second from the assortment of different rocks. In between shots one and two or just before shot one you are most likely to get a 'checkpoint done'. So if you mess up the second shot (shoving the banshee back onto the platform) you can have another go at it. If you take note of the rock formation on the first and then on the second, then chances are they are completely different.

Yeah I noticed the different rocks in 'Two betrayals' aswell. Mainly because I usually jump up onto the side ridge and sneak around to take out the Covanant and the flood, rather than just storming into the thick of the battle.

I too noticed the changes on the rock bridge in AotCR. Its easiest to notice when you're wanting the banshee and need to sniper the elite before he gets in the banshee. If you mess up and revert to save, then the chances are, the shape of the rock may have changed. (Big, tall rock or small flat rock or no rock at all)

I don't know why I didn't put these on a topic before, I never really linked them together. Nice to see that someone has taken notice and has begun to add up all the different places in the game where it happens.
