I don't have Live because I have dail up and Broadband doesen't come out to where I live. I love playing Halo when I go to my friend's houses. Out of my school I am the one of the best. My best bud has Live and he plays alot. I play him all the time and I beat him most of the time. My question is When I get live will my skills improve?

A big resounding Yes.

If you've never played on Live before, you will definetly get better. When i first started, i thought i was alright, but pretty soon i saw things being used, and what does what where, etc. Basically a whole lot of things i could have never learned simply through playing wtih my friends. Whether or not they had XBL.

Dude, deffinatley, I thought I was really good when i didnt have live either. I mean its pretty much the same story as yours. But then i finally got live and i got my ass handed to me a bunch of times, countless. When I first started before the rank reset i got up to a 24 back in august. Now up to this date ima legit 34 but peopel say i can play better about a 35 or 36. So dude trust me you will get better. You also just need to play the rite gametypes.

Without a doubt, Live makes you better.

When you're on Live, you expose yourself to so many different kinds of players and playstyles. You'll also see the people who are "undiscovered" talent sometimes, and just tear through Live as opposed to tournaments.

People argue that the fact that Latency, Lag, and host play too big a role to determine skill from Live, but it's more or less clear that Live is where you go to get better at this game.

If you have never played Live, and never bought the Map Disk, then the beat downs wouldn't be as strong and the game would be completely different.

Without Live* you would need about 5 beat downs to kill someone --now it !!should!! take only two.

Maybe it doesn't make you better --and maybe it does..., but without it you would play the game differently.

RIP Halo 2.

As long as you don't spend all your time on Live goofing around in pointless custom games or Team SWAT or something, yes, you'll improve significantly. I suggest playing MLG FFAs and team games with people who are better than you to improve your BR and get a better feel for the maps. You'll also develop your own strategies and figure where you're most comfortable on the map and how to function a team. Also, Team Hardcore is worth a try.

They most definitely will. Halo Live has a completely different dynamic to the game offline.

This is off-topic: Lone_Wolf, your signature has this quote, "It is better to burn away than fade away." Shouldn't it be this: It is better to burn out than fade away?

A kid who plays live once a month should (and in most cases will) beat any kid who plays campaign/his sister all day.

Your friend managed to prove me wrong, and I seriously recommend that if he doesn't play solely to dick around ( in other words, he's not trying to improve) that he quit.

  • 07.17.2007 12:58 PM PDT

When you gain live, you skills will improve a lot in the next week. I used to always lose to my big brother, Him and I both thought that he was the best, that he would stand a chance against pros. Pfft. I got live, and after two days I could beat him 25-12. It was amazing. He doesn't live with us, so I played him the other day, 25-0. It's amazing how much of a difference Xbox Live makes.

So like the second post:"A BIG RESOUNDING YES!!"

yeah i think so because when halo come out i found it kind of boring playing the same people i.e. my friends but in live its different it really tell us who is good and who really blows and its never the same game because everybody has there own style i love snipers but i cant stand slayer i dont like it so snipers is all i play everynow and then i play slayer but i find it hard to play because im not use to it lol. i mean i dont suck at it but i prefer snipes

My friend that has live dosen't play alot just his bro. When I played I never sniped because my little brother always sscreencheats so its hard to get a head shot. But now If I grab the sniper rifle on any level my friends will get really mad because My only time on Live made me a awsome sniper and made me better I quess. Also I play story mode all the time on legendary. I have beaten all the levels on legendary and I had the silver skull ball turned on which makes elites harder

Campaign skill has almost nothing to do with how you play when facing real humans in multiplayer.

Example: One of my first games
compared to
Now (on my 3 month account, against the same level people as before)
or
Now (same gametype as the first game, same map, same level people, just a lot better) on my friend's account

I would like to add, in a short and sweet version.

You won't be good for a while:

You'll need to learn the basics (the ABCDE's!):
What weapons to go for on which maps and gametypes.
Rumble Pit is a good starter (nowadays the people in there are not that good--I win every game I play ...or get second...)
And Sniping is a perfect chance to start off and get good at one thing--one very important thing--sniping!
I don't really recommend BTB to practice though...don't ask why, its just not good for that, mainly just to have fun, you know?
Team Skirmish is always something to try as well, as it will get you more familiar with different parts of the game.

Halo 2's MM is the best help at getting better at Halo 2, and the more you play, the better you'll be (most of the time!).

Great post Rellik, you're definitely right.

The transition to Live isn't always so smooth. Whereas on Lan your shots and melees always work, on Live you can't really depend on them working all the time LOL.

Try Team Training to just ease in. Take it slow, and adapt.
