I tend to alternate, depending on context, but I guess Achronos has spoken.

Not only did he speak, but he was 100% right. It is incorrect, at any time, in any country, to say "Bungie are".

I guess I tend to say things like "the guys and girls over at Bungie are..." At least it's right in the name.

As has been said, Bungie is a singular collective noun, so "is" is appropriate and "are" is not. It's one of the corners of grammar that a lot of people don't really follow (sort of like the who/whom stuff). There are a few exceptions to this rule, but "Bungie" isn't one of them.

Bungie is a singular proper noun. Even "Bungie Studios" is singular. It is not grammatically correct to say "Bungie are". It would be like saying "The Senate are voting." You would say "The Senate is voting" or "The senators are voting."
I prefer "they are" for that usage...

What is Bungie doing? It is making Halo 3. ]:

No matter the technical classification, I use the plural for the most part. Hey, it's Bungie Studios, right? =P

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

I think it is only fair that we blame stosh for this.
Isn't that how we always settle arguments? Just blame Stosh? It's like shooting Griff with the shotgun every time the reds start a plan.

Bungie refers to everyone involved with it as a whole, in which case they're all brought together in a single phrase.

Are you saying Baron, that this isn't the proper way to handle arguments? Because I will blame Stosh right now to show that you're wrong!!

And don't listen to Achronos, he still thinks that binary is a language!!

Bungie not need such pathetic distinctions.

'Bungie awesome'
'Bungie better than you'

Bungie is a singlular organisation, if you said 'the folks at Bungie', then it would be 'are', but for saying 'Bungie', stick with the singular. Also, this is more for bungie general.

cars, girls & cake all day everyday

If Bungie was plural, then you'd be able to point out one Bungie member and say "That is a Bungie" which wouldn't make sense.

He's right. You wouldn't say "The Bungie are voting" because Bungie does not have a "the" before it like "The" Senate does.

EDIT: sorry for teh double post.

What I'm about to say is probably going to sound really strange. I apologize for any scrambled brains.

If you think about it in another light a company is not exactly an animate being. You cannot meet Bungie on the street, go see a movie with Bungie, sip tea with Bungie, ask Bungie what its favorite color is. Technically speaking, Bungie doesn't "do" anything. It is the people employed at Bungie who do stuff on behalf of the company.

So I would think it more appropriate to say, "The programmers at Bungie are working on Halo 3." When in doubt, it is best to avoid such confusion altogether by referring to something else.

We're not talking about the programmers, we're talking about the entity that is Bungie. Would you say "Bungie are working on Halo 3?" No, you'd say "is."
