So this afternoon i thought i would kill 2 birds with one stone, get the new bac-compt update for my 360 and dl the 2 new free maps for Halo 2 and give the game a well overdue blast!! Have to say was quite looking forward to this all day in work. So rushed home, ripped out the VGA cable and placed Halo in the drive. Straight away the dashboard update kicks in and signs me out of XBL and downloads that just fine. Halo 2 then promtly loads and advises me that and update for the game is available. So I download the update. The update seems to dl fine and I get the conformation message that the updated game is all good (words to that effect) and it trys to reboot the game. It is at this point the 360 crashes, the screen just stays black and after a few seconds the digital connection to my amp drops and the controller is unresponsive. No guide, no nothing. I reboot the console and reload Halo 2. Once loaded and signed in, I am giving the following error message:

"File Damaged" "Content you've downloaded is damaged and not usable. Please try downloading it again"

Not sure what to do, i decided to dl the 2 new maps anyway. Again the download goes just fine and tells me its all done. I then try to exit the dl menu by pressing back, again with the black screen, audio dropping and console crashing!!!! Reboot and reload again. and again I get the error message above about the content. The 2 new maps seem to load fine as I had a quick run round them both on my own. ( Really like tombstone, looks friggin rude)
I decide to see about fixing the error on the front screen as it apears every time i load the game and when i go back to the main menu.
Thinking that a quick System Maintance might do the trick I reload the game after doin this only to find the error still there. I then decided to go in to the Halo save files on the HDD to see if the update was listed there for me to delete so i could redownload. All I have is the 4 map packs and my save game file. I'm not sure what to delete? The maps load fine, so i see no reason to delete them. Will deleting the save game file fix this? and is anyone else getting this? I'm really stuck as to what to do next....

Ok this is how i found out to solve this problem(by the way im still having problems) but this still gives a little bit of help
and don't thank me thank Cryptic Guardian.(that is if this helps)

Turn off your console and turn it back on. Sign into Xbox Live via the Xbox 360 dashboard and go to the "Systems" blade. Once there select Memory, Hard Drive, and Y for Device Options. In the Device Options press X, X, LB, RB, X, X, and then select Yes. Performing this action will clear any Xbox 360 updates for games you have downloaded which is no big deal because they are fairly easy to download again when launching a game over Xbox Live.

Now, press B until you return to the dashboard and go to the "Xbox Live" blade. Sign out of Xbox Live and sign back in after about one minute. Make sure you are signed into Xbox Live before launching Halo 2 and then launch the game. It should prompt you to download a required update for Xbox Live, select Yes. The update will finish and the title will restart where you should see the message again, in which you signed into Xbox Live. Once you get to the Halo 2 Main Menu, select Xbox Live and from there you will be able to access any Gold membership account with no problems at all.

If your map pack files are corrupted or damaged, I would suggest going to the Halo 2 Content Download and re download all four map packs. If that doesn't work, go to Memory, then Hard Drive, then Games, then Halo 2, and delete the map packs only. After that launch Halo 2 and then re download the map packs once again. If they fail to download you are probably experiencing a credit card issue or another various issue, in which you should contact the Xbox Live Technical Support Team here for further assistance.

I don't know, but I hear the nice folks at 1-800-4MY-XBOX are very friendly and helpful. They'll be able to give you the best advice.

I decided to completely delete the whole Halo 2 file from my HDD and start again. After setting up a new save game file, I was promted to download the update or continue offline. I once again downloaded the update only for the game/console to do the same all over again; the update downloads just fine, tells me that the updated game is ready to go, trys to reboot and Bam, crash! to be fair it really did look like it was trying to reload and took a lot longer to crash and the audio took a good 15-20 seconds before that dropped!!!!

Well it looks like im phoning XBOX Support Again!!! at least its not for the rings of death this time lol
