Has anyone tried used a Voice application while playing Halo on the PC to communicate with your teammates? If so, which one did you use, and did it work well?

I'd like to be able to talk to my teammates (like on X-Box) but I'm worried that it will create too much extra lag. Plus there's all these choices (GameSpy's Roger Wilco, TeamSpeak, etc.)

Also, I've heard of a Voice-to-text converter from Microsoft (works with Unreal Tournament). Anyone have details on that? Would it work with Halo?

(Rhetorical): Why doesn't Halo have the simple Key to Speech mapping found in the old Unreal Tournament? Wouldn't it be nice to hit a button and have the message "Defend the base!" pop up to your team mates? (rhetorical means, no, please don't answer that)

p.s. Where is the search button for this forum? I wanted to search the forum and see if my question had been discussed before, but this (The Maw) is the first forum I've see that doesn't have a search function. Or its hidden pretty well....

Voice is unnecessary when typing is fine, lag would be an issue for sure with players with low connection rates. UT2004's text to speak is built in, it's not a 3rd party program which can be used with other apps. Besides it's pointless coz you have to type. I don't think there is a search function here. And, you can't ask rhetorical questions in a forum. I agree with you that for example if you could bind "Defend the base" or "Camper near base" to say the functions keys (F1-F12) that'd be cool but then again 'new players' don't listen to you, they play their own game. btw you know what I mean by 'new players' but you can't say it here.

Counter-Strike had a good key binding system, like "storm the base", "affirmative", "negative", "fall back", "cover me" etc.

I thought of doing it but once I downloaded the necassary program I realized that it was pointless because even if I had it most all other players wouldnt and plus, I wouldnt get lag but I still dont wont to do the voice communication. Probably the longest text message you will get is" all players gather and go for the forts flag." You get my point?

if you feel the need, you can create a team speak server, which allows people with a team speak client to join, as long as you tell them your IP adress for the server. but no, there is no other way.
this will work, just a little laggier on crappy PC's

Heyyo,

Teamspeak, plus it doesn't take much bandwith. If you have bandwith issues you can just lower the codec.

I saw someone before making a radio binding thing for teamspeak, dunno if it's still out there, then I'd take virtually no bandwith, look for that dude...

On a crapy pc u can barly run the game on the lowest video mode. VO IP would be great in a game like this especally during capture the flag. I mean u can't just stop to talk to your team when the enemies have snipers and they have a head shot on you.
