Subject: So what do you guys think of the new Halo 3 forums policy

Will is everything.

At least the Halo 3 Forum will be readable. Seems like there were too many little children screaming to get their opininons shoved down our throats. Hopefully the sensible members can enjoy it more now.

When I first joined I went to the Halo 3 forum. I thought it was terrible. I flamed someone in the Halo 3 forum for terrible spelling or something like that (something I do regret), and I think I went there only a few times in the year I have been here. I still don't know why I wasn't blacklisted for it (I was flaming like a mad man) so I am glad the mods are cracking down. I still remember that because it was the one thing I think I really did wrong in the public forums. I think I might go back there if there is a nice big crackdown.

Hopefully, this threat from lukems actually has some effect. When you compare this forum to other game forums (i.e. BioShock's forum), you realize how bad it really is there. BioShock's forum doesn't have nearly as much members though, there is probably only a couple hundred posts there, while there are thousands here daily

Back in my day, we didn't have a Halo 3 Forum! We had Zanzibar, and a box of rocks!

Sorry, but this isn't the flood. Save your off topic posting for the form its meant for. O, and btw-elitism is frowned upon. The community doesn't much like it.

Anyways, i think the new policy is great. It should make the forum enjoyable

Zag, I must agree with Anonymous on this one, you have been taking threads off-topic quite a bit lately. And, honestly, I do think that needs to stop.

In any case, the Halo 3 Forum, since the 'crackdown' has seemed much more peaceful, and I can actually go there regularly now. Nice work guys ;)

hrm... Recon steps in with two off-topic posts, and people laugh. Zag has one, and he's told to quit it. heh.

Anyways, it made me laugh. I like carnage, and I thought I would see some from it.

Besides, he wasn't critisizing the ninjas. He was basically changing their rules of engagement. At first, they tried to keep a tight leash on the forum (well, Jim did, at least.) Then they let it go, deciding that it wasn't worth it, and to let most things be. But now... they want it strict again. So goes the tide, I guess.

Isnt it more of the people that reply to his posts that are causing it to go off topic?

Of course, then that'd make me a huge hypocrite. But then again recon shouldn't have replied to the spam his post caused. But that'd make me a hypocrite again!

although, posting off topic things in the septagon seems to be a fad now. Just look at the webcam thread

But Zag has taken quite a few off lately, which is why I have agreed with Anonymous in this case. Especially when Recon's posts were at least relevant. In any case, this is not about taking a topic off-topic.

I did not notice that before aku, until you just mentioned it. I do thing though, that it is about time. The game is two months from release, and they wouldn't want a bunch of rampant members doing whatever they wish. That is an interesting observation though.

  • 07.18.2007 11:22 PM PDT

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

It's not offensive to us because it is giving us free rein to bring down the hammer and warning people of the approaching hammer.

At this point it would be impossible to make the H3 forum an "extremely strict" forum; there's far too much volume.

*I* don't want you to be able to make a retarded thread that clutters up the forum with pointless nonsense, and neither do many other people who want it to be like an actual forum, rather than a slightly slowed down, insane, idiotic chat room. The new policy reflects that, and, honestly, I wish Bungie had gotten tired of the degeneration earlier.

I love the new policy. That Halo 3 forum is so much fun now. ;)

In don't think it's enough. I think random, instant blacklistings for no reason should be introduced, just to keep people on their toes.

Also, after reading the new policy. I like it. Gives moderators more freedom to crack down on the crap.

I actually like what you mods are doing. I think it's about time these people get dealt with. And I dont think you guys are being strict at all, I mean it's YOUR forums, and we are your little members, so if we clutter it up, I think you guys have every right to do whatever is necessary to clean it up. I dont think that not posting junk is being too strict. Hell, I dont think it's being strict at all. I've lived by worse rules. So yeah, thank you guys for taking some action against the stupid people here, and keep it up.

I don't we are too strict, or that strict at all. It's just that it be cool if we didn't have to spend so much time moderating. IThat if someone did something bad, we could let him get away with just a warning, that we didn't have to ban him because he is idiot number 5674 to pull that same -blam!- again.

Sometimes I think we spend more time moderating than actually participating in discussions we like. To help with that I see that the crackdown will hopefully get the message out to members that we are not going to waste our time with multiple warnings that go unheeded. You will just be dealt with and we will move on.

I like the policy... I think's its long over due. The Halo 3 forums can get a bit out of hand when new info hits and with all the loads of information we are bound to be getting in the next couple months its going to be crazy. I honestly don't post much cause over half the post are normally doubles of something else or just some crazy post by someone that decided to post and idea in one sentence. Giving the 'ninjas' free reign to act upon stupid post or whatever they feel is out of line is all the policy does, which the ninjas all seem to be responsible enough to handle that.

You are all loved beyond measure.
I, like you, am a light-sound-vibration complex that resonates with others. I have hopes and dreams and ambitions, just like you! I AM, and so are you! Yes, we are one and the same, you and I.

The new policy seems more like a group of suggestions than harsh mandates. They're all perfectly reasonable, but I do think that they're still far too lax. As a whole, I think the Halo 3 forum -- others as well, but in particular H3F because of the sheer amount of miscreants who frequent it -- needs to be moderated much more strictly. Even if it isn't possible to judiciously attend to every transgression that transpires there, those that are noticed should be dealt with swiftly and severely to compensate. I'm no expert on forum policy, but there have been many instances where discretion permitted what observance of the rules would have surely censured. And the accumulation of such instances, I think, is contributing to the need for this crackdown in the first place.

The only other thing I'm concerned about is that inviting members to treat others as peers may not really work as intended ;)

Hey, stop taking this thread off-topic! :D
You guys all need to lighten up. This is ridiculous.
It's more hurtful to the topic to go on some tangent about me derailing topics. Anonymous User, you seem to know a lot about this community. Elitism being frowned upon and all. I'm surprised you and Rokit didn't have enough common sense to send me a PM if you thought I was being disruptive. (Hah, check out this hypocrisy right here.)

The new policy in the Halo 3 Forum is great. It keeps down the spam in there, removes a lot of the repeat topics, and seems to be doing a pretty fine job at removing all the idiocy in general.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some elitism to execute on unsuspecting forum-goers... >_>

I would have to agree, that was FAR more off topic then you comment you made or the comment Recon made or the comment JAF made. Oh, and Elitism is always going to exist here.

I also agree with Zag's second point, the Halo 3 Forum is at least some better now due to the new rules, I just think we might need one or two more moderators so that some may have the time to hand out warnings to people who deserve them rather then having to lock topic after topic only having time for the most serious of bans.
