I also agree with Zag's second point, the Halo 3 Forum is at least some better now due to the new rules, I just think we might need one or two more moderators so that some may have the time to hand out warnings to people who deserve them rather then having to lock topic after topic only having time for the most serious of bans.

I wouldn't quite say that. I've noticed our moderating team is doing a great job of keeping things nailed down, and I salute them. Of course, some people, like Recon, for example, probably needs to put a leash on that brain of his. He made too much funny yesterday, I was laughing so hard I couldn't read about pelicans in multiplayer. :(

>_>

Actually, I really enjoy it when the moderators are fun about things. :P Too much seriousness just makes this place boring.

Don't get me wrong, I think they are doing wonderfully, but sometimes, it seems, that they do not have enough time to hand out small 3 day bans and warnings as often as should be done.

Also, Recon is funny, don't stop with the funny.

I don't we are too strict, or that strict at all. It's just that it be cool if we didn't have to spend so much time moderating. IThat if someone did something bad, we could let him get away with just a warning, that we didn't have to ban him because he is idiot number 5674 to pull that same -blam!- again.

Don't think of yourself as strict.

More like efficient.

Freedom isn't given here, it is earned.

For example, in this forum, participants are generally better behaved. So, it isn't that big a deal when someone makes an offtopic post so much. Even offtopic threads usually just get moved, and no warning/bans are given unless you have a history of it.

But in forums like the Halo 3 forum, a huge mass of morons fester in there. This means that they get zero leeway in the rules. They don't get the same freedom because they don't deserve it (based on their actions).

There are, of course, exceptions (this is why moderating is subjective and requires highly trusted people to do it). If the people in the Halo 3 forum didn't behave collectively like idiots half the time, they'd find much more freedom to have a more organic conversation.

Policy

I think is pretty rediculous that i could get banned for some of the reasons stated there. No one complained when people had nothing to talk about other than random speculation.

I also think the policy is offensive towards the ninjas. Its like telling them" hey i dont like the way the forums are doing so do a better job, here are some pointers". I thought the ninjas where doing a good job, i dont want the forums to become some extremely strict forum. I want to be abel to post "Thats cool", or create a thread called " Elites are AwSoMe".

What do you guys think of the new policy?

I am a proud user of correct spelling and grammar.

I think the problem is that people don't want to waste time reading the rules. I'll admit that I read about 3/4s of the rules before I jumped to the Forums. What if the rules were more interactive? What if there was an official rule video that new members could watch which explained the rules, but featured elements that kept the members watching (e.g. comedy). Just an idea.

I'm really glad for the crackdown in the H3 forums. I know I'm a REALLY new member to the B.net forums (1 month) but when I first joined I spent alot of time around the H3 forums because of all the AR business. All I saw was constant flaming and hate. Criticism toward people for no reason, and people who automatically told everyone to just "die". What with all the idiots around it made the Bungie community, as a whole, look bad. Now that I know better, I know that the people that spend all there time there don't reflect the people that make up this community but to so many potential new fans, it looks really bad, so yay to clean up. (I'm just saying now that I know the REAL part of the community I LOVE B.net and I just want to say that this is an excellent group that I hope to be a contributing member of for quite some time.)

Me <3 the bungie! oh... and me <3 cake... I like cake....

Hopefully members will obey the policy. The forum was out of control and there wasn't anything worth posting in. I used to come into that forum searching for interesting finds on wesbites but I can't do that anymore. If the forum clean up is a success then the Bungie mods should have a good pat on the back.

Yeh, I never really go to some of the forums for that reason. Out of control b.net members flamming and ranting at everyone in sight, while dragging almost every topic down with them in there fanfair. Hopefully the new rules will clean up the mess there makeing and allow for a better forum enviorment.
