I am sure that everyone is aware of all of the immature people on the Halo 3 forum. In Bungie's guidelines it says don't use noob, don't flame, etc. Apparently no one listens to these (if they ever bothered to read them in the first place) and no one enforces much of anything. I know that it is a very hard thing to do, and people would probably say the moderators were "fascists." But I would like to see some people that continuosly do this stuff get some punishment, because things are too out of hand to me. What does everyone else think?

I agree to an extent. You, as a member, also have a duty to keep the forums clean. If you see something going on that's against the rules, PM a ninja so they'll be able to efficiently take care of it. Also, try to PM a ninja that's currently active, but if you can't find one that's on at the time of need, just PM your favourite one and they'll be able to take care of it when they get the PM. It's in text so it won't go anywhere.

I don't want to tell the moderators that they're doing a bad job, which they aren't. They're doing very well, but I think as more members come in, the ninjas are starting to be overwhelmed a little. They're doing their best and I commend them on their efforts. When Halo 3 is launched, there's going to be a lot of new members and the problem with "immaturity" and rule-breaking will be worse than ever. As long as you help the ninjas out, the problem won't be as bad.

This is kind of a funny thread, considering all the ones surrounding it are about how harsh the mods are being in the Halo 3 Forum.. >_>

I've always questioned why the ban against the word 'noob' is rarely enforced. It's really only enforced when it's accompanied by something worse. And even then, it's never the 'n' word itself, it's the bigger thing that they're banned for. It's kind of one of those.. "Sometimes" rules.

Its because your a nüb.

Seriously though, llew sa boon a si xelfeRtnatujdA. (See what I did there? Thas cuz I'm crazy tricky skilled like that)

On topic: Everyone has a different perception on the level of freedom in the Halo 3 forum, just look in this forum for evidence. No matter what, some will be happy, some will be sad, some will be reticent and some could care less. In the end, someone will always be unhappy.

My advice, don't go to a place that makes you unhappy.

I hang out on the Halo 2 forum. I agree with what you say. I have received open abuse and offensive remarks which the members blatantly get away with; punishment free. Moderators aren't always there, and at these times, the forum is a nightmare.

If I criticise, reiterate policies or, disagree with someone, I receive so much 'flaming' and highly foolish and ridiculous remarks that it has become too much to handle. I've recently been called, apology for repeating this, a "-blam!- retard" and told to "drink bleach" openly. This shouldn't be the way members conduct themselves. They don't care what happens to them because nothing will happen.

So, yes, things are out of hand. Something should be done.

Um, Cardenio, it's because you're British [/kidding]

On a more serious, less insulting note, people don't like being told they are wrong. It's human nature. And if you are telling them they are wrong and they don't view you as having the authority to do so, even if you are completely right, they will become irate. For some people that is a problem because you will get the incessant flaming and name-calling, the "drink bleach" comments, etc., and you'll be offended by it. I, on the other hand, think it's humorous and have no problem listening to all the ad hominem arguments they can throw at me. Which is why you will typically find me posting in the more "controversial" threads such as the MLG threads, the M6D threads, the Glitch threads. And almost like clockwork, the next day from when I post in one of those threads, I have countless PM's telling me how idiotic I am for thinking what I do, even though their arguments are so completely irrelevant and illogical, it "hurtz mez brainz to readz them becauz theyz typed lik diz!"

Now why would I subject myself to such a response instead of doing what most of the other "older" members do (which is to avoid those discussions altogether)? Well, for me, it's because I try to be an example (sometimes not a great one I'll admit) of how to rationally discuss something even though you might not agree with what the other person is saying. If you can argue a point effectively and logically, even if I don't like it, I'll respect that. If you can't, I'll be sure to point out where you're failing at.

Oh, and I can post in there all I want because I'm a "normie" and not a mod so it doesn't make a whole bunch of difference what I say.

You used the N-word in your post!
The moderators can't check every single post. Just follow my example and stay the hell away from the Halo 3 forum.

But what if you want to discuss Halo 3?

I've always thought that it's the members responsibility to read the rules before posting. If you don't read the rules and post something wrongly, you get punished. Or you should. Although, here's the problem; how would you go about punishing someone, without completely scaring them away from the site?

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

I always punish people for violating the rules. If a user uses the "little n-word" in their OP, I'll lock the thread, and check their history. If they don't have any warnings or bans in regards to using that term, I'll warn them for it then. If they have a warning for using that word, I'll ban them. Same for any user who I see using that word. You can't see their warnings though, so you could not know if any headway is being made in regards to that rule.

I do the same thing for flaming, and any other violation.

On the other hand, I can't possibly go through every thread in the Halo 3 forum, or any other forum to enforce this rule. There are just too many topics, so I can only get to...well...what I can get to. I know that goes for the other mods as well. We try our best to get every infraction that we can find, but even if there were a thousand moderators, we still could not get it all.

That's not a lecture or anything like that by the way. Simply my input into this situation (I say that because some people take these kinds of posts as something they're not).

The best thing you can do when you encounter a rule breaker is to ignore them, or send a link to the offending thread to a moderator via the PM system.

Then go ahead and try to start a discussion in the Halo 3 forum. All I'm saying is that theres not much you can do, if it bugs you so much just stay away.
