I can't begin to express what a HUGE dissapointment (and frankly, failure) it would be for Microsoft and Bungie if H3 ships without the ability for online co-op. Online Co-op is practically a standard feature on FPS games on the 360; for H3 to not have that ability would be an embarassing failure, in my view.
Cries of "our AI is extra complicated" or whatever is a hollow excuse. I'm confident the game will be great in every other respect, but I, for one, just can't accept any excuse were it to ship without online Co-op.
How about less work on movies, comic books, graphic novels, figurines, t-shirts, helmets, RTS versions of the game, Halo-themed controllers, consoles, MP3 players and all that other stuff and more work on the game? Hell, I'd even give up the ability to share films of my games in exhange for the ability to share the campaign portion (remember, Bungie, the "most important" part of the game?) of the game itself with others, in real-time.
there are lots of reasons why it is difficult for them to have online co-op. look at the size of the maps, we have heard about free roaming, and the like. just see what the have done with the skys as some proof. so no only do you have that large amound of information just in the maps, there is also the randomness factor, granted it isn't much, but a lot more than your normal fps, that adds another thing into the mix. the reason why this is easier with just system link, is the fact there is no go between, with online co-op, there is lag, even if it is small, but that lag will cause a lot of frustration. and all the work on other things, is not done by bungie themselves, but third parties, granted they do take a small bit of time, which is hardly a revolutionizing hour or so, to talk to these people and get these other mediums situated. granted i would love online co-op, i would like it even more if they presented us with a fun time, then a half crap attempt to provide something that is wholely unintertaining.
but all in all, love the update!!!! every week my inticipation grows as i await the tantalizing tidbits of the next weekly update. and burnt hair is a pretty putrid stench, and it lingers. . . .
