I am considering getting a dell M1210 12.1 inch XPS laptop. It has a 2.0 ghz C2D, 2 gbs or ram, and an nvidia 7400 (256 mb w/ turbocache). How well do u think it will run halo 2. at this point i don't mind low settings, I just wanna achieve good framerates (40-60) that never drop below, say, 35. All worthwhile comments welcome. thanks...

It probably will drop below 35. A 256MB ATI Radeon X1300 Pro with Core 2 Duo and 1GB DDR2 RAM usually get 45 in MP and 30 in SP.(FPS)

Unfortunately, your video card is holding you back. Even with the lowest settings, it may drop below 35 FPS once in a while.

even on the lowest settings? Though I don't want to turn the res down from 1200x800(or something like that), I am willing to in order to get better performance. i plan on having the detail set to lowest, and AA set to either x2 or nothing.

If you want to play games your best bet is a Insprion 1520 (15.4") or 1420 (14.1") - with 8600GT and 8400GS respectively. I dont normally encourage people to buy Insprions however because they are complete crap in terms of build quality. Even a Latitude D630 (14.1") will play games better than the m1210 on a Quadro 135M. Some guy on noteboookrevew.com did a test on it - the results are suprising. Plus Latitude Dx30's are built like -blam!- rocks.

Just make sure you get a 7200RPM Hard drive and at least 2GB of RAM and the T7300 (2.0Ghz Core 2 Duo) at minimum.

Slaying noobs since 2007.

How much are you willing to spend?

the m1210 costs $1572 (the way i configured it), but the main reason i am getting it is for portability. i know most of you will frown upon my wants and needs in a laptop...but all i want is a small (12-13 inch) laptop with a dual core processor and a decent vid card as well as a good 2 gbs of ram.

14.1" laptops will do the trick too, they are only ~5.25 lbs

Try to configure an XPS m1330 and if is too expensive try an Insprion 1420 or Vostro 1400.

You really dont have alot of choices for gaming on a thin + light, basically you have the XPS m1330 or the Inspiron 1420 (You can also configure a Vostro 1400 - its basically a black version of the 1420). Latitude D630 will give you better gaming performance than a m1210, for less price and better build quality.

Another thing I suggest you look into would be the Asus A8JS series laptops. They have Core 2 Duos and the nVidia 7700. The 1GB version retails for $1500 and the 2GB version retials for $1600 at newegg.

Doesnt it stand to reason that if he wants a lightweight laptop he actually needs it for portability? Honestly, its not that hard to figure out.

And if you have read his other threads you will know he has a gaming desktop already

Surprisingly enough I didn't
remember what the "m" designation was or check Dell's website
Read all of his previous threads to get his backstory

I apologize.

U bloody retard. He never once mentioned what operating system he's getting with this new computer. But since he did mention it was new, there stands a good chance it will already have Vista loaded on the hard drive.

Perhaps you should go back to God (ie: shoot yourself) and ask for a new brain. Since the one you have is obviously severely defective.
