Cake>Pie!
Hey you saw my sig! :)
Their was a time when this was under a post. Simpler times; no Halo 3 Forum and no search. Simpler times. Happy about search though.

The gold thing is only worth it if you have an xbox.

1. You sound like a robot.

2. The FOV can be increased by going to widescreen. Don;t have a widescreen monitor? Window it.

3. You act like Halo 2 on the xbox was a bad game. This includes the same features as the xbox version. "It's just the xbox version with a bunch of bugs." You make me laugh because it's the same bugs on the xbox version. The BxR or there x combo's don't have much of an effect on gameplay as it is. The quickmatch feature might be a little buggy, but remind me, why do we need a quickmatch when we have a browser that will get us servers twice as fast?

4. The mod tools are limited yes, but what they can do is amazing. The controls are simple, placing spawn points, vehicles, weapons, targets, objects, even someone with no experience can make a halfway decent map. Along with the fact that both of us know about the "hackers" improving the software, and who have already done an amazing job on editing bipeds.

5. Halo PC had all the same problems if not more. The graphics weren't improved at all, in fact they were made worse. You can't tell that H2v has been improved for the simple reason your looking at a 640 x 480 screen from six feet away on your xbox. If you took the same textures from the xbox version and put those on a 1280 x 1024 monitor while sitting only a few feet away, it would look terrible. Gearboxes netcode is also one of the worst netcodes in PC gaming...ever. H2v improved on everything in the xbox version, just not drastically. Gearbox made everything worse, drastically.

6. The fact that you need to pay to get specific features on Live sucks. However, the fact that you need to pay to do ANYTHING on the xbox version sucks more.

It sounds like you're protecting the game. (fanboy maybe?)

1. Ok, awesome, I'm glad you think that. It's what I was going for.

2. If I paid $230 for my LCD monitor a few years ago, why should I be forced to only use half of the pixels because the developers were lazy?

3. Honestly, Halo 2 on the xbox wasn't the best of games. The vechiles and weapons are incredibly un-balanced. It carries over to the PC version. There's much more bugs than just the quickmatch feature I listed.

4. The editing tool left out many of the shaders and examples that were in the tutorials.

5. You're right, Halo PC did have a lot of problems. But they really didn't need to have AF or AA because half of the video cards couldn't run it at a decent framerate until a year later. (Remember the 9700Pro was the most powerful at Halo's release). Ok, you might be right about if you were comparing textures directly... but even then, they wouldn't look too much better. And if you can't see it in-game, it doesn't matter. Halo 2 Vista's netcode was an improved net code from the xbox version? Hm, maybe, maybe not, I'd like to see some proof. But I didn't mention it in the review, so I don't know what you're getting at. Gerabox made the netcode worse? How? They didn't have anything to start with.

6. I agree

The standards are different on the PC, and tossing in a 3 year old console port in 2007 to promote your new "Games for Windows- LIVE" isn't going to cut it.

I'm not a fanboy, H2v isn't what everyone was hoping for, I just disagree with a 4/10. A 6.5 to a 7 I think is a better review. It's average. And about the netcode thing, does leading ring a bell, the leading on halo PC is an honest to god -blam!- (some people like it though).

P.S. I sounded mad in that, I'm not. Lol, just an argument.

I wouldn't consider it average... there are too many features missing that are in modern day shooters... Demos, spectating, voting, connect by IP, punkbuster (or some kind of anti-cheat)etc.

If h2v had punkbuster it would be worse, much much worse. And if you wanted added features, then you didn't want Halo 2. Halo 3 is for the new features. Ports aren't known for including new things (often). We all just have to remember, it's still a port.

Yes, you're right, it is just a port. But HG actually said they were making some sort of anti-cheat to put in H2v. And these aren't "new" features, they're standard on the PC. IMO, H2V just wasn't optimized enough for the PC. And when that happens, people say things like "if you've played halo 2 on the xbox, you've played halo 2 on vista"

Thats the point, it's the same game. Just one game has custom maps, and soon custom weapons, vehicles and bipeds. I think thats worth the extra thirty bucks from the bargin xbox version.

If it's the same game, what's the selling point? Spend $200 on Vista and Halo 2 so you can play it with a keyboard and mouse? Custom maps, weapons etc... that's one thing that Halo 2 Vista did right, most games have map editors now days.

Slaying noobs since 2007.

Yeah, every game has ups and downs, some have more ups than others, some more downs. But, in the end, a game is meant to be fun, unless I am corrected, I understand most people want to have more, but it has what it has, no more, no less.

I think Halo 2 isn't bad I think it could have been SO much better.

First, whoever it was that made the decision that it would be Vista-only is feeling pretty stupid right now. That is the biggest thing holding the game back right now. There are no players and without a good player base server companies will not offer servers. No choices. no players its a catch 22.

Second it is not a PC-centric game. They kept all of the console nonsense including the menus having controller symbols. PC Gamers want dedicated servers and customizable maps. We want anti-cheat measures and a game that doesn't interfere with having a clan.

The FOV is too narrow, widescreen or not. In Halo PC I knew what was going on 360 degrees around me at all times. I have NO situational awareness in H2V. Someone could be walking next to me and slightly ahead and I haven't a clue they are there.

Not two hundred for Halo 2 vista. Two hundred bucks for Halo 2 vista, Crysis, Hellgate and Directx10.

And Igg, there is no way you could see 360 degree's around you. Halo's FOV is a little lower than 90.

What it is.

The thing about the anti-cheat. If you actually read what HG was talking about, you would know that they said it was being built into LIVE, not the game itself. This game doesn't not deserve a 4/10, I'd side with No Refunds with the 6.5 and/or 7/10. Personally i never experience the FOV problem because i have a widescreen monitor. Even before then i'd play H2X with a 4:3 TV and I still didn't have a problem...Netcode has improved due to dedicated servers. I can join a 16 player game and have 0 lag. I try that on H2X, in my dreams...You'd have to have like a T3 connection..The main reasons i dislike the game are because you can't edit party size. Can't edit simple settings like AF/Shadows/Lighting. And the big problem so far is there aren't even that many people that play it. Of course this would've been a problem if MS would've released it on XP as well(bad marketing not good).

I agree with the whole thing. Very nice review. However;

The whole thing of him sounding nervous is, I think, a null point. Sure it's awkward to hear but I don't judge reviews by the way they're "spoken".

The deal with me is, H2X was not a great game to start in my opinion and I don't want to get Vista yet. So that seals the deal for me.

That was a nice opinion piece. My opinion is that it was a decent port. I'd take the small amount of glitches over the god awful netcode of Halo PC. At least this one is playable.

I personally DO think Halo 2 on the xbox was bad, same goes for the Vista version. In my mind it certainly comes no where close to Halo:Combat Evolved in terms of skill, fun and replayability.
