Location: Outlaws' Summit.

They made host because it's pretty much the easiest way to have lots of people playing online without having to use dedicated servers.

Unfortunately the side effects were obvious (namely cheating) but there's nothing they can do now, in Halo 2 at least.

You know if you have host if you can grenade jump, or if you BxR and your clip doesn't reload.....also if your shots seem crisp and hit people from across the map LOL.

The easiest and most common way to check is to hold back while the game's first starting up...whoevers emblem shows up first, they got host.

I've heard sometimes it'll let 2 people share host, or maybe even more, but I dunno if that's true.

I'm not exactly sure but I think if your battle rifle reloads but you don't see it react than your host. Other than that I'm not quite sure.

No, only one Xbox can get host, if two people are playing on one Xbox then two people can have host, but otherwise, if two emblems show up in the beginning, and you're not on an Xbox with anyone, they probably live close to you.

It's sticky 'nade time!

After 4, you get the "connecting" screen, in that screen push the Back button. The icon to show up first will be the host. And yes there can be multiple hosts. Only one person can get the "real" host, sometimes if other show up as host as well, they support the main-host connection. It's called secondairy host.

What the -blam!- are you talking about, no. It's basic network connections, its not some giant river with tributaries and -blam!-. There's no such thing as "Secondary host", if two come up it either means our connections is slow and the game stalled for a second, or the person is connected through the same internet provider in the same area, (or live decently close), so your connection isn't stalled as much. There's no such thing as "Secondary host", "Two hosts" or anything, halo 2 works only as 7 people connected to one, or however many are in the game.

I'd Rather Be A Smartass Than A Dumbass

It is not quite as you describe it sir.

The emblems show up as the players spawn and obviously the faster their connection the faster they load the map, game and weapons and subsequently the faster they spawn.

Obviously host will have perfect connection because of the nature of host sir.

However if another player either lives close to the host or has near perfect connection in some other way. (Internet service speed etc etc) then they will spawn so quickly after the host that to the naked eye they appear to spawn at the same time giving the illusion of multiple hosts.

Fairly certain that "host" is selected based solely upon quality of connection. Someone can reasonably predict they will be host if they are aware that (by odds) they have a superior network connection. Someone hooked up to a dedicated T1 or higher, Someone who pays for faster download/upload connections, etc.

It would be the only reasonable way to set-up a system dedicated to using player machines as hosts. It's far more cost effective than trying to set-up dedicated servers, particularly when you have the number of players going from game to game as Halo has.

Or... grenade reloading... try that. If your clip isn't full or empty, whack X after throwing a grenade. If you reload without animating, you dont have host.
