Okay so being a huge Halo Pc fan I couldn't pass up buying Halo 2 Vista. I just finished buying a few new parts after Mobo died awile back. So my specs now are as follows:
- P4 3.0Ghz Processor
- 2Gb DDR Pc 2700 Memory
- Radeon X1950 GT Video Card

Well I never thought that my machine would have problems running the game, and always figured hell, I'll just run it on low if need be. But even with everything at it's lowest setting the game still runs like -blam!-. I can keep 25-30fps but it just keeps dropping at random actions to the single digits. I understand when alot of actions occouring for it to drop, but looking at the floor? reloading my weapon? Just random and frequent fps drops.

Now last I checked I exceed every reccomended requirement for the game and everything except my processor exceeds a 5 Vista rating. I know my Cpu's a bottleneck but it, and everything else surpasses the requirements and I know the game shouldn't be running this -blam!-.

So I turn to the Maw, is there some setting or command I can change/add to make this game run like it should? I've tried everything I can think of so help would be greatly appriciated.

Defragmenting on a NTFS HDD shouldn't make a difference.

I get random FPS drops too, it's just your hardware trying to load random -blam!- at stupid times. Blame the H2V team.

AMD AM 2 64 5200+ at i think 2.5 Ghz per core
Nvidia 7600 GS by TEC( forgot the name) at i think bout 518 M bit memory(little better than a lead tek 6600GT)
2gigs 512 Ghz Corsair RAM
works just fine occaisoinal CPU power drop but thats it which btw are VERY and i mean VERY rare

Casper its the cpu. 3.0 GHz is severely bottlenecking your GPU.

It doesnt help that H2v is poorly optimized.

I don't see how it's a full Ghz above the reccomended requirements. Regaurdless, is there a way to counter Cpu bottlenecking?

Here you will need this to help you get your foot out of the back of your throat, looks llike its in there pretty deep. And what is that on your face? Egg?! *hands Kim a washcloth*

Besides upgrading your CPU you can up the res, details AA, and AF to where the difference between a highend CPU and yours is less. Essentially putting more focus on the GPU is what that does.
