The magnum can't kill anything with a full clip (at least against a good player). And using grenades would be the only way to kill 2 people efficiently if they had full shield. It would destroy Halo's game play.

haven't you played against level 30+? Using the magnum would mean "free kills" for the opposing team. It's a very inaccurate gun. it doesn't shoot the center of the cross hair enough times for it to be called accurate. And even if you stood still, the magnum still isn't consistent with the center of the cross hair.

A BR would make a better spawn than a Magnum.
i find accuracy is in the hands of the gunholder, if you can make uper body shots with 80% percent of the clip then thats enough to at least drain there shields, you can use whatever amo you have left to attemt a fatal head shot, if all else fails through some frags, your bound to get a kill(unless its swat, then most of the time theres no frags)

The MA5C Assault Rifle is a 7.62x52mm FMJ (full metal jacket) weapon with a 32 round clip. It has some similarities to the original Assault Rifle seen in Halo Combat Evolved, the main differences are the clip size ,the power at short to medium range (unlike the smg which is only close ranged making the AR versitile), and the strenght of the weapon. It also has a smaller reciticle, giving the rifle almost as much acurracy as a BR another versitile weapon that must become the starting weapon in halo 2. Halo 3 beta video in the OP evidence suggests that the weapon has a much smaller spread than the MA5B, while dealing more damage and a effective spawning weapon like the Battle Rifle in halo 2.

You could just say AR...

BR is the ultimate spawning weapon. On some maps. On Tombstone, I would never want to spawn with anything else. I prefer it on coagulation or zanzibar. But on smaller maps like warlock and desolation it becomes undesirably powerful. Halo 2's gameplay is not designed to be dominated by the starting weapon. On a map where the starting weapon can reach all the way across the map this happens. There are less grenades and less melee's because two guys can kill you from the other corner before you are in effective grenading range. Perhaps it is the round nature of these maps that put the whole map under fire but it is simply less fun on desolation when the entire map has br's.

Of course, but accuracy of the weapon and accuracy of the wielder are two different subjects.
Every gun is bound to kill. Maybe that's all you have to say, but for others who have more in mind I'd like to expan.

But here's my point.

The magnum don't have enough potential to fit the role of "primary spawning weapon."

Other than the needler, every other gun would be more useful. The magnum by itself limits the user in so many ways. The most notable is the number of options you have.

What makes the BR Halo 2's best spawning weapon (at least competitively) is the fact that it gives the player, and the team more options. There's more room for creativity. Not so much variety, but what the BR has to offer is enough to help you handle a good number of situations.

The skill comes in play when you have options. Dual weapon starts remove options. Not all, but enough to where wielding power weapons become low risk. And not even power weapons, weapons like the BR, Sniper, and the Sword have more control over the game than the actual player's skill.

In more than enough situations, in order to get a kill with dual weldable weapons, you have to put yourself in danger. Why? because the movement required to use dual wielding weapons at it's optimal best is not only predictable, but easy to counter. There's hardly any options, and you pretty much have to sacrifice cover for kills.

The reason the SMG needs to stay the spawning weapon is because if you let everyone have a BR, it's value goes down. In a basic slayer game, that's what I go for first. I also hate playing my friends, in Big CTF games, pinning them down in Coag with a sniper, then having them spawn and kill me.

Value is the eye of the beholder. Well, more like the eye of society.

In any case, your biased for the case of the winning team. But you prove several points.

- SMG spawns provide little options combating against specialized weapons "like shotgun for CQC or Sniper for far range"
- SMG players are more at the mercy of weapon control than BR starts
- To use the SMG effectively, you have to sacrifice cover when it's time to attack

Eh, the rest is covered in the topic.

Yea no kidding it should only be used close range, no ones arguing that, and evryones agreed that the larger maps should have a br start, but smaller levels should stay smg. There still not going to switch everything to a BR because they already have a hardcore playlist, and if everything is a BR start in everything whats the variety in that.
