Thinking of something witty to write here since 2004...

I'm not to familar with ATI cards but the Nvidia 7600 is a decent card. To check the wattage on your power supply there should be a sticker on it. If not you may have to open up your case and check.

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

That 7600 is the best card out for the money right now. I'm hearing bad things about the 8600, which is not too much more.

Both of those cards are decent Enough to play the game on High as long as you have a gig and a half of ram.

To check the wattage on your psu, open your case up and look for a number saying ###w

Like mine: it says 350w or 350 watts

what brand of pc? what model number? PSU's can be looked up via that info.

Unless its a home built PC, then ya gotta pop that case. If the PSU doesnt have the wattage, you can google the model number.

What "bad things" are you hearing about the 8600? GT or GTS? Which card brand, PNY, EVGA, XFX??? Which clock speed 540Mhz or 620Mhz clock speed?? I have the XFX 8600GT version with the 620Mhz clock and it is an awsome card. Absolutley no problems after I installed the newest drivers for Vista.

There is nothing wrong with the cards themselves, they are just way too slow to be a competitive dx10 card.

Slaying noobs since 2007.

And since game devs will build their games to take advantage of those new competitive dx10 cards, the need for a newer card will arise.

What it is.

I hear the 8600 is supposed to be comparable to the 7900GT/GS...But it turns out that it was more comparable to the 7600GT. The only thing the 8600 has to offer rather than the 7900GT/GS is DX10 support. And for right now, seeing as DX10 games aren't very popular, they aren't super necessary until games like Crysis come out.

Are there any released Dx10 games right now? I didn't think that there was any.
But the best gpu you can get right now is the 8800 GTX Ultra, and as for checking your wattage a) take a look at the psu and model number if it doesn't say on it, and look up the class. b) this is a little more time consuming if you don't do it very well, is use a power meter, preferably, a.

I believe Lost Planet uses DX10, not sure about any other games though.

Company of heroes and call of juarez also both support dx10.

With CoH taking a huge framerate hit and call of Juarez actually looking really good.
