hmmm i actually had this problem about a week ago. Is it any coincidence that at the time i had just upgraded my internet bandwidth to a much faster speed. That upgrade was obviously a bag of -blam!- and i have now gone back to my old bandwidth and hey...........its green bar again.

I live in england and ive been playing this game online for just over 12months and only had this problem when i upgraded from 2 to 20 meg broadband. Every game i had was either 2 bar yellow of red bar........i was getting owned and actually lost nearly 10 levels in a playlist. Ive now gone to 4mb broadband and have since got my level back in 2 days. I don't give a -blam!- about them numbers but i was just making a point as it does make a difference when your red bar etc.....

Im not totally sure what it means but when your red bar, your bullets don't connect ( host doesn't receive your data packet ).

Your location has nothing to do with it sir.

It is merely your connection quality.

However I admit people in the middle of nowhere probably won't have access to high grade internet connections.

Is your connection wireless sir?

If that was true then it would have always been bad and not just for the past week sir.

It's either a bad host, or you live in Australia.

there's nufin wrong with australian connections... i live in tasmania(below australia. between that and the antartic... i'm futher away then any1 i know n i never lag... all the australians i know never lag(i'm in a clan with over 500 australian members)... our only problem is all the servers are over in the US so we never get host.... all you's think we lag but we dont, ive never dropped more than 1 lil bar in the green metre. so tell me how we supposibly lag now?

It sounds like your internet service provider is having some problems. Go here and select the server closest to you (New York in your case I believe). You should be lag free with a download speed>1000 kbps and an upload speed>500 kbps when hosting games. If your speed test comes out slower than what you're paying for (whether it be cable or dsl) call your provider to fix it.

but we"re not actually laggin... i can play with a full green connection n you's(americans) will say i'm laggin, but i'm not... its only coz all the servers are US based. so any1 other than american/canadian apperantly lag but we dont(unless ur on dial up still lol or a sh^tty connection)....

do u get me now, when i say we"re not laggin?

if all the servers where over in australia n not US based we would say it was you's that were laggin even though you's weren't...
so until we get servers over here you's can keep on thinkin we"re laggin for all i care. but u cant say u dont know the truth now

Halo 3 Academy--join to learn, join to play, join to have fun.

There aren't any dedicated Halo 2 servers in the U.S., Australia, or anywhere for that matter. Each game is "hosted" by one of the Xboxes in the game (hopefully the one with the best connection). I'd imagine that if you hosted a custom game in Australia and only played with people in Australia that nobody in the game would experience any lag or latency.

I'm having similar issues. I will start the first minute or so of the game in the green, and the connection rapidly deterioriates into the red within the next minute, only going green during the last 30 seconds or so. No one else on my team appears to have the problem. I have all uploads/downloads turned off, and the speed test shows me at about 4.5 Mbps dl, 468 Kbps UL. Internet is a direct cable connection through a router. I also note that the issue wasn't as prevalent on my old xbox. Since getting the 360 last week its been an issue.

Does anyone have a technical solution to solving this problem?

I had the same problem when I first started playing on my 360 too. I'm not too sure what the cause is, but the lag cleared up in about a week for me. Maybe your new 360 has to get used to the Halo 2 on-line netcode?
