OK well unless I see hard facts that blue team and red team both win 50% of the time no matter what level you are then I'm positive red team has an advantage a great majority of the time. Now this could be due to them getting host or me just getting unlucky. However, using some stats I'm on blue team about 70% of my games. This always seems to happen when I go into matchmaking alone. And even though my win percentage is about %50 I know for a fact it could have been much higher if I was on red team more. I just played ten games in team snipers. I won 2 games. I was on red team one game. I won the game when I was on red team. See the thing is that my team (blue) on the games when I lost were all consistently bad. We would all get about 8 - 10 kills while one or two guys on the other team got about 15 - 17. Seriously, there must be something wrong with the way matchmaking is deciding what team you are on. I mean it's just about impossible for me to kill someone from across the map on almost any map. I'm a 23 in snipers so I don't consider myself bad but when I'm on blue team I can see a significant difference in how easy it is to kill people.

EDIT:
I guess I need to clarify that I'm not complaining about the "color." I just think there must be some advantage with red team. The color of that team just happens to be red. what I'm wondering is why that team seems to do better on a consistent basis. Is it because they get host? Is it because people in larger parties (i.e. 3 or 4) get on red team and will thus work together creating a better team? Does blue team consist of single players just playing a game? and the questions can go on...
if the answer to any of these questions is yes then I just think Bungie should fix it if they can. I mean it just seems unfair in a way because it can be mentally defeating to get on blue team a lot. but again this is just my opinion so don't flame. I'm not mad at Bungie or anything.

EDIT2:
I just looked at my stats...
Blue Team: games = 111 wins = 43 (39%)
Red Team: games = 45 wins = 23 (51%)

so I play at least twice as many games on blue team but lose 60% of those games. Maybe I'm just unlucky or don't play well on blue team but there must be some reason for the difference. If parties get put on red team more and those parties tend to get host more then red team will win more. Is there some way to fix this??

look at your own games and then report back

What team you're on doesn't decide who wins, you're severe lack of skill does.
I win most of my games, regardless of what team I am on.
What sort of a pathetic excuse is that? "I lost cause I was blue"

Oh, and the game engine hates you.
I forgot to say.

Hey itsmike dont act like you are good. I doubt you win most of your games.

And the reason you are losing is probably because of lack of communication because you are not playing with anyone you know. Also red team may get host more often than blue, but the color itself has nothing to do with it. Spawns are different for each team and red spawns are far better on tombstone, beaver creek, and other maps. Get a team of 4 together and back each other up and talk.

I'd be interested to see those stats of red vs blue, though I can't imagine that it'd be that far off from 50-50. I checked my own stats on the subject on query spree and strangely enough I won 54% of my games when on the blue team and 64% of games when I'm on the red team. No idea what's causing the difference...maybe more people quit in objective gametypes if they don't score first on the blue side giving the red team an advantage? (or maybe I'm just colorblind and can't pick up red opponents as well...)

Yeah well after looking at your stats, ItsMichael, I've decided your pretty bold saying I'm bad and you win most of your games. But anyway I'm not complaining about the color you idiot. There just seems to be an inherent advantage for red team (whether that means they get host, better spawns, etc.) oh and the guy below you has a point. At least he's not a jerk. I've found playing with friends does help but still I'm not sure why it should really matter all that much.

Hey I'm in the same boat you are. First, I'm on blue team a hell of a lot more. And second, I lose more games on blue team. So combining those two things of being on the team with which I lose more games can be annoying. I just don't get on red team that much and when I do I win more often. I just want to know why.

I think that it'd be cool if Bungie could reveal that stat like a week before Halo 3 comes out. The ultimate win-loss record!

I'm not sure that's a good idea... because I bet (though I really hope not) that halo 3 will the same problem. And yeah, Bungie must have that stat somewhere. If other halo stat websites know my win percentage on each team then Bungie must be able to find the win percentage overall with each team. They need to release it for each specific playlist I think and also overall for all playlists as far back as they can.

i lose a lot anyway ( Level 18 ) but it has nothing to with the team color. its the communication and skill of each player between one another that determines any game.

Well I doubt that there would be any difference in red vs blue for slayer gametypes, but objective would be interesting. Do more people quit on the blue team after not scoring in the 1st round or do more people quit on the red team after giving up a first round score? (or more importantly does any of this matter?)

why is it flawed? you know that what you just said negates a great many scientific theories (this thread is not scientific) out there which I won't get into.

Actually Berserker is completely right---correlation does not impart causation (and since we're getting all scientific and geeky a theory can never be proven but can be supported or not supported by research). In other words just because you win more on the red team does not mean that being on the red team causes you to win.

Thats true but there are reasons why red team may win more. Bungie may give host to red more often, the larger party may be put on red team, and we already know red team spawns have advantages over blue.

perhaps. I mean I'm using a very small sample size -- the games I've played. We need a bigger sample size. There have been like 2 billion games played. I would be interested to know an overall stat. And yes being on red team doesn't mean you will win. But there is just something about that team I think that gives it an advantage (even a small one at that).

well is there some way to fix this? I mean doesn't this just seem unfair to people on blue? I've noticed that when in a party (even with only one person) I get put on red team a lot more often. Why is that? I'm just curious.

I haven't noticed that host goes to the red team more than the blue team but that could be a possible explanation for why my winning percentage is 10% higher when I'm red.

I have noticed that when I am in a party I am almost always on the red team, and when I am not I am on the blue team mostly. I don't really think there is an advantage given to the red team other than they are more likely to be a party of 3-4 players.

  • 07.25.2007 1:19 AM PDT

The Red Team will have the higher average rank of the two teams. And without getting into the whole ranking=skill argument or whatever, that probably explains why you notice Red Team winning more often.
