Before I start, I will preface this guide with a smiley: :)

Glitching: Glitching is an integral part of any competitive gamer's repertoire. I'll go in-depth right now. :)

BXR-Easy. Press B (melee), X to cancel the animation, then R. It's easier to pull off if you "claw," which I will explain later in a section that hasn't been named yet. Insta-kill if you do it right.

BXB-Another easy one. B, X to cancel, then B. Faster melee.

RRX-This is slightly difficult, but extremely useful when you're down a shot or two. Puts out two shots in the time it takes to fire one, and give you an instant reload afterward. Can be done in quick succession with YY if you have a secondary without the instant reload. Can be aimed if you claw.

Quick Reload-YY with a secondary as the clip goes in the gun, or BX if you don't have a secondary.

'Nade Reload-Off-host only. L, then X quickly. Reloads while you shoot.

BXR Reload- B, then X+R off-host. Same effect as 'nade reload.

BXL-B lunges you forward, while X cancels and L throws the 'nade. Makes it easier to stick someone from close range.

Sweep Sniping-Better off-host, but can still be used when you're host. Sweep the sniper's reticule across a target, and it will hit.

Double 'Nade-Not used very often, but release a charged PP burst, wait, then hit L twice.

RRBX-An easier version of RRX. Can also throw in a BXB if timed right.

Techniques:

Gandhi Hopping-Press A, then tap crouch repeatedly. Moves your head around, which means you're kept alive longer.

Strongsiding-Tilt your head all the way down. Prevents head shots.

Triangle Strafe-Strafe in a triangle. Keeps reticule focused.

Circle Strafe-Different pattern, same effect.

Counter Strafe-Do a predictable strafe, then at a random interval, strafe the other way.

Claw-Special way to hold the controller. Middle finger on trigger, index on buttons, thumb on right stick. Can allow you to aim melees, RRX, and jump and look at the same time. Personally, it's easier with a Duke (Big) or 360 controller.

Gametypes found here.

Call outs:
Midship
Middle, Top Middle (Midship), Sword Spawn (Duh), Red/Blue 1/2, Red/Blue P Side, Red/Blue Car(bine) side, P 1/2/3, Car 1/2/3. P stands for Pink Tower, P1 is where PP (Shotgun) and frags would spawn, P2 is the middle part between Red/Blue P ramps, and P3 is the tip where you have to "trick jump" up to.

Lockout
Blue/Lift 1/2, Sniper 1/2/3, BR 1/2/3, Top/Bottom Middle/Glass, Blue ramp, Elbow, BR ramp, Library ramp, Library, Library bridge, sword spawn (Duh!), Sniper spawn, under library, sniper bridge. BR means Battle Rifle Tower, which is where Blue spawns. Snipe(r) stands for Sniper Tower, which is where red normally spawns. Green room is the room behind the lift. Elbow is the ramp connecting blue room to snipe 1. Blue ramp is the ramp connecting bottom mid(dle) to blue room. Library bridge is the bridge between Library and BR2. Library is the part where you can drop down to sword spawn. Library ramp is the ramp leading to BR3. BR ramp is the ramp that leads all the way up through BR tower.

Warlock
Red/Blue/Green/Yellow nades/valley, R/B/G/Y base/flag, R/B/G/Y health (lift..), R/B/G/Y needles, R/B/G/Y flat, R/G/B/Y ramp, R/G/B/Y Port, Top Middle, bottom middle. R/G/B/Y Ports, for me, is easiest to be identified by the port behind the ramp.

Beaver Creek
Red/Blue base, more specific, valley, flag, on top of base, in front door, plasma side, needler side, pistol side, port side. Sniper ramp, sniper spawn, rocket ridge, rocket spawn, creek, OS spawn.

Sanctuary (These are more "insider" as I don't like the community's call-outs because they're not as easy to remember for me.)
Red/Blue base, R/B shotty tunnel, R/B sniper spawn, R/B behind snipe spawn, R/B PP bridge (pea shooter), R/B snipe ramp, ring 1/2/3, R/B center nades (R/B bon. :P), in front of R/B base, R/B car(bine) ramp, R/B rocks, under any respective bridge/ramp. Rocks are the rocks directly in front of the base

General tactics:
Lockout Ball:
Average: BR set-up
One guy with ball looking out library window, one guy with sniper in the back of BR3, guy BR2/bridge, guy BR1/whatever works best.

Midship Ball:
Average: Rotate!
Seriously, keep teamshooting to a maximum, pressure on ball guy to a minimum, and keep the ball rolling!

Midship TS:
Average: P2
Guy P2, another window, another car 3, and another P3. Sword is recommended to be at P2.

Lockout TS:
Average: BR
Just like Ball set-up, except the ball now has BR/Sword!

Most other maps have strategies catered to each team's strengths/weaknesses. Find out your own!

Play hard, play to win, and have fun!

While theres alot of aspects that are missing this is very good on what it does cover.I think you should change the definition of Gandhi hopping to: Press A, then tap crouch repeatedly. It makes your head glitchy thus making it harder for a player to hit your head.

It's not so much that it "glitches" your head than it's part of the crouching animation.

I could go in depth, but I don't really feel like it. :P

This is an anti MLG forum sir and probably not the best place to locate such a guide.

But don't let that stop you sir. XD

I would suggest that you make a much more detailed description of strategys because "Beginners" as you label this guide to be intended for may not know the names of map locations and techniques.

This guide as it is now is useless to anyone who doesn't already know these techniques and their pros and cons and map location names.

At the moment this just has a big "I'm gonna teach you guys how to cheat" sign painted all over it.

I would also include a warning against using glitches in matchmaking sir.

Even if you don't agree with it yourself it is still Bungie's rules and these are still Bunge's forums.

It's button-glitchers like you who have ruined this game for the rest of us who want to follow the game rules as Bungie originally set up. What you do in customs or elsewhere is your own business, but the cheating inevitably comes to matchmaking. You, and the rest of you cheaters, talk smack like you're "so good", when in fact you're manipulating the controller and game engine to gain an unfair advantage over others who are playing correctly.

You're obviously not good enough to play this game legitimately, and have to cheat. Go back to the hole you came from.

First referring to people as sir is a form of respect for someone you don't know. Speaking in a forum I don't believe the whole "sir" term is warranted but nonetheless it is a form of respect so take it as so. Secondly I would agree that this is a good topic but people who don't know where P1 or P2 and such are on Midship will have no clue.

Aha of course forgive me I momentarily forgot that you have the authority to deem what is fit for me to say and do on these forums. Because your view on society is the only one that matters. Let us not think for a dreadful moment that there may be other cultures and customs outside of your knowledge and experience.

I should be shocked at this rude and ignorant attitude. But to tell the truth it is sadly quite common in my experience.

Would you say that it sounds more "retarded" than somebody who bursts into laughter several times mid sentence for no discernable reason?

Thank you sir.

At least someone has a concilatory attitude around here.

There is no NEED for common decency and respect in a conversation?

Truly I shall never understand you people but yet I will continue to speak with you amicably in the hopes of one day learning.

If only more of you would make an attempt to understand me

This discussion of glitches is against forum rules as it is considered cheating by Bungie. If you want to talk about this stuff, you should put this on the MLGpro forums.

This thread should be locked.

Oh, and to B3OWulf, you only think you're playing the game correctly. I do cheat to win, because the rest of the gaming community deems the glitches fair and reasonable. Just because your mind doesn't think they're fair doesn't make them "unfair." Can you do them? It's not unfair if it doesn't break the game. Just the way the designers "intended to play the game." That's the mindset I'm trying to obliterate on these forums.

No offense, but its only the players with a lack of skill that complains about button glitching.

Which will never happen. By the same token, just because your mind thinks they're fair doesn't make them fair. The rule is in place, therefore those who don't follow the rules are cheating those that do. The simple existence of people who will be following the rules makes breaking them unfair. You cannot out-rationalise that. If you want to play the game a different way to how it was intended, there's obviously plenty of scope for doing so in your own customs, LANs, whatever. But when you do something in matchmaking - a proprietary service ran by the people who make the rules - that was not intended to be a part of the game, you're not playing the same game as the guy who does observe the rules, and that is what isn't fair.

Re-name it a "Play Like a Pro" or something. It's only about BR button glitches and stuff.

Yeah, I do go to MLG Pro Forums. I just wanted to see community reaction in here to competitive gaming as a whole. Not saying you guys couldn't or wouldn't get into the competitive aspect, I just wanted to see a different mix here. :)

Unfortunately, this is the wrong place.

Bungie.net is known for being anti MLG, and anti "competitive gaming" as a whole. If you play MLG and/or game competitively, you're labeled as a quote unquote "No life Cheater" on these boards.

Immaturity at its finest I say.

Maybe there will come a time where we can discuss MLG/Competitive gaming on these forums. I honestly don't see why we can't at the moment. Maybe lesser skilled players feel bad that people can be so good at a game and they can't. I don't want to come off as "cocky" or "good" (I'm really not that good at this game) but it sure does seem that way any time we try to talk about MLG/competitive gaming here.

As per Bungie.net's forum rules, the whole button glitching thing tends to spark controversy. You might wanna put a little disclaimer in there, just to ensure your thread doesn't get locked, or a flame war break out.

Now about your thread, it's nice. Definitely a neat little guide for people that who want to know a thing or two about competitive gaming. Maybe you could post the MLG custom games rules, and gametypes?

Either way, props.

Oh, and guys, please don't turn this into another tired "Anti MLG vs Pro MLG" debate, it's getting really REALLY old.
