eh, the ending is going to be what it is. and judging by the epic amount of suspense that Halo 2 left us with, ima guess that the ending is going to be sweetly epic, and of course, somebody has to lose their life (someone we care about that is), but then again, thats how every good war story goes, somebody makes the ultimate sacrifice to save everybody else, and they are remebered fondly years later by some gray-haired old person in a comfy room somewhere who says something to the effect of "ah, that was a good friend, and i miss them every day", then the movie/story/videogame ends with a tearjerkingly sweet and deeply emotional moment that has you smiling and sobbing and yelling with a mix of joy and saddness that the story is finally over (welll, thats what halo 3 should be like anyway, lolz) all i know is im looking forward to doing that sweet "death blossom" tactic in the game now, every chance i get. you know that theres probably already an article on wikipedia for that now, lmao if it happens, and if it doesnt, ima gonna write it myself.

Dang the death blossom sounds nice. And he cried at the end, :O. Z0MGZ WOT.

It sounds good that Bungie was more organized and followed things through. Hopefully it'll be the best game yet.

Crying.............and not in a Halo 2 way?

So it is confirmed, the game ends.

Or wait, was that already confirmed?

The less than a second latency of online play is a better system to play off of than more health.

You realize this system is just as host based, right? because if you're fighting host, or someone with a better connection to host, and you each start firing at the same time, his BULLETS will register first, giving him slightly more health if the melees happen at the same time.

So would you rather have the BS of both, or just one?

OMG, it's finally happened, bungie is no longer a pile of slobs. They actually managed to complete this game with time to spare for even more polish? No f**king way!

Not to say their old procrastinating/ last minute wonders weren't just as effective but this is just awesome.

If they test played their final modes of campaign even ten times through (with game tester style play where every nook and cranny is bumped in to and every AI is tested to its breaking point) then we may finally have a completely blemish free campaign.

Multi player as of the beta was superb and could have either been overworked to a lower status or worked just perfectly into greatness. I wish for multiplayer at least they would have given us the final product with all weapons (that wouldn't give too much story away, such as no forerunner rifle or no flood tentacle or such)so we could effectectively balance test it with our higher numbers of testing personnel. From the beat data they judged that the spiker required a tweak of 10% less damage based on the weapons in place what if the sword/ hammer/ mauler/ whatever else turns out to be potent to an extent that the spiker didn't need a 10% drop but the SMG/ plasma rifle needed a 10% boost?

Ah whatever we have forge now so at least for custom games we have that tweak power.

If their latest podcast is any indicator then I could only imagine how re-playable campaign will be when forge plops down (x) many weapons, vehicles and baddies on each map.

Nice. I'm heading to RIT to study Game Design, so its great to hear stories about how you guys got into the biz. I recently read an article talking about how many people enter either as programmers and mainly stay in that realm, or come in as testers and work their way to become producers. This story seems to parallel that.

Keep 'em coming. Reading about you guys and all the work that goes into such games is really intriguing.

am i the only one who gets the distinct feeling that bungie thinks halo 2 was a rushed POS?

not literally of course....it was still a good game....but it was definitely rushed and riddled with problems. remember the brute vidoc where the one dude shakes his head and says "the brutes were added way too late in development" and he looks pissed?

sounds like they're pumped about how sweet halo 3 is........yes!

So, we’ve got this new version of the Warthog, the troop carrier, that can carry you and 4 other marines

So it looks like the transport warthog carries 5 people instead of 4 like we though.

A witty signature you say ! ? well at the moment i have nothing witty that springs to mind, so sory..................nope still nothing.......

Nice interview

It's great to hear you guys were more organised in production this time round and are able to really work hard on polishing the game, after watching the 'making of' documentary on the bonus disk for halo 2 It really did seem that at times you guys had some pretty stressful moments getting the game finished and shipped in time and it seemed you weren’t totally satisfied with the level of polish in the end, but hay you learn form mistakes, so it must feel great to be so on top of things this time round. I'm really looking forward to playing through the campaign form the beginning right to it's (supposedly) tear jerking end lol. Keep up the great work Bungie

So there you have it, Pete Parsons killed Halo 2's ending. Blame him.

I'll start a "WTF I HAET PEET PARSENS" column Group later.

He ruined the ending by saying that he cried a little bit. That means something happens to someone.

sweet. i just wonder what TYPE of crying is at the end. will it be the TOTALLY FRIGGIN AWESOME w000000000tness ending, or the zomg: im so sad ending, like earth getting blown to oblivion by the detonation of the halos, or master chief giving up his life...for a chick or sumthing. but hey, i could be one of those heart-warming stories that will turn into a classic best-seller in the future.

i thought the troop transport warthog could only carry four people total, but i guess since they said it could carry 4 more marines, then how wrong was i.

Well it sounds like they learned from there Halo2 failures, so it has to be good.

As lond as the ending is different with no Bosses....and more like Halo 1, I might be loving it!

The beta was encouraging though!

Forged in blood. Tempered in battle.

That was really a great read. Wonderful article, and thank you Bungie for giving us a little bit more insight into what you do and how you do it. :-)

I came very close to landing an associate producer job for EA when I came out of college, but unfortunately it didn't work out. I have a lot of respect for the role producers play in the gaming industry--actually I have deep respect for every position in the game industry. It is amazing what you guys can do. I can't wait to see the final product!

games never over til its over

i always wondered if there was a special ending on the last level in halo 2 if u beat it on legendary......anyone know?

  • 07.26.2007 11:14 PM PDT

Never Lucky, Just incredibly good.

Yes, it's a sort of "bonus" scene of the gravemind talking to Cortana. It kinda gives you a "prequel" if you will, of what her status is turning out to be before Halo 3 (a la, in the clutches of the gravemind)

"Death Blossom" - that will certainly turn a battle around in your favor if done correctly, then again...Brutes still rain from above. Less than two more months...so much to do before than...not enough time.

That scene is the same for all of the difficulty levels. It shows up right at the end of the credits.

This doesn’t bode well for the lengthy campaign many were wishing for. He’s played through the game 50 to 60 times and intended on playing through the game again, the following day. I heard the levels were suppose to be massive, I guess the vehicle combat really speeds up the missions. The death blossom, pish posh. I’ve had four AI with Spunker missiles on the Scorpion tank. I pwned so hard, I never was hit once. The AI really helped out though. The difficult part was avoiding walls so the AI didn’t destroy themselves or myself.

Nooooooooooooooooooooo! He implied the ending was a tear jerker. Nooooooooo. Someone save the Master Chief, send in a wave of Grunts and Zealots to protect his retreat to safety.

Damnit... that's what I get for continuously playing on only Legendary :( .. I thought Halo 2's ending formula was the same as Halo. If that's the case, then the ending on all difficulties is just the same

To view that scene, you just have to wait till the end of the credits, or head over to halo.bungie.org
