Can anyone recommend some settings that I can run H2V at the smoothest, while retaining some visual quality?

I have a GeForce 7600 GT, a Pentium 4 running at 3.14 GHz, and 1 GB of RAM. Sound is integrated.

I also have the newest drivers. Also appreciated is advanced settings, such as the ones in the Nvidia control panel.

Try medium at 1024x768 without any AA and start from there.

I ran high at 1024x768 with no AA or AF, and I got about a 15 fps difference. I'll set it to medium and see if I get another increase.

I have performance issues, but not video related. When loading single player levels, there's a major framerate drop but the game catches up after about 15 minutes. I think I should stop dual booting or defrag because it seems to be hard drive related. Or something, all I know is that it's not Vista or Halo 2's fault.

I know how you're running this game so well, it's your processor, not your RAM. That Athlon 3300+ is a 64-bit, so it's faster than my P4. However, if you're running in 32-bit mode, it doesn't make any difference.

Do you have Vista Aero interface enabled? Try disabling it if you do.

Disabled it, same performance, it's not a video problem.

I know this is a noob question, but how do you disable/enable the Vista Aero interface? Is it in the control panel?

Well if it's hard Drive related, I probably fixed that.

I reformatted my drive so that I was no longer dual booting. Instead I'm running full Vista.

Slaying noobs since 2007.

You didn't have the right to try to jack his thread. So, don't call them idiots, if you use google you can have your answer in 2 seconds or so.

Right click the desktop, select Personalize. Click 'Windows Color and Appearance'. Click 'Open classic appearance properties for more color options'. Then you can select Aero / Vista Basic / Standard / Classic modes. However, people who tell people to disable Aero before playing a game don't realize that Windows Vista automatically switches to Vista Basic when a fullscreen application is run. With Aero on, start Halo 2. When the game is running, hit the Windows key to go to your desktop and see for yourself, you'll be in Vista Basic mode.

Now was that so frickin hard. Took Scarlet Crusade two minutes to type that out and the person got helped. These forums HAD been known for being extremely helpful to people but now they are a place to go to get flamed. Technically, yes he hijacked the thread and it would have been perfectly fine to mention that while helping him. In addition, this brush off was lauded by other posters which only encourages the behavior.

Hypocritical post, you went ahead and continued the thread jacking. Knowing the post was off topic, you and Scarlet Crusade continued to acknowledge the post. There is a thread for help like that.

Anyway the reformat helped. When I first installed, I was playing Cairo Station at 15fps. Now I got my whole 60. Thanks to all that gave helpful tips.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time. I know who you are. You are destiny.

You know, I run with a 6800, 256mb. Runs perfectly smooth at 1200x960... for some reason, though, when I play it windowed, the sound lags, yet the video is just fine. Talk about a mediocre sound card...

Either way, the game will still dominate.

That's not the point. The question was posed here and I answered it. There's no sense in posting the same time twice in two different threads. While we acknowledge that Triforce's question was off-topic, it still merits an answer if someone can give it. You don't have to be a prick about answering other people's questions even if they are misplaced.

You got a point there, but I think vincent also does have one as well. You see, Triforce can read the forum rules, plus maybe try to look for a thread that addresses that type of questions. Stickies for example. And if his question got big enough, might as well read forum ettiquette as well and try making his own thread.
