Someone posted in one topic that Home Basic sucks (compared to the other versions)...why is this. My understanding was that Basic had the least crap on it to slow it down and was therefore faster (or something like that). That was just my interpretation. All comments welcome.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Basic version. If all you are going to do is play games, then there is no reason to go with Premium or Ultimate. The major features that basic doesn't have is the Aero 3D interface and Multimedia center. The Aero interface is nice, but it is a memory hog and will slow down game play. So if you were playing online you'd want to disable that anyway for the best FPS. And in regards to the multimedia center, I seriously doubt that the majority of people that bought preimum will ever use it anyways.

When a fullscreen application starts, Windows will disable Aero automatically, so that's not an issue. Home Premium just looks nice when you're out-of-game as well as when you're in them. =D Media Center is there, but I don't really know too many people who actually use it.

I use it. Almost everyone I know that has Vista and listens to music uses it.

You don't have to have Media Center to listen to music. Windows Media Player handles that. Windows media center allows you to user your PC as an entertainment center to play movies, watch TV, play DVD's, play music, etc etc on your PC or TV using the included Remote control.
