Ok I cannot play a lan game because when I click on network through the game is says:

You cannot play with other because the network port is in use. A game or server might already be running. Continue or Cancel. Continue allows you to go to Halo 2 network screen but I cannnot see the any lan networks. Any idea what is causing this and what ports I need to open.

For Halo 1, it's 2302/2303. For Halo 2, it's 3704. I've never heard of a port issue on a LAN game before, though. That's a new one.

I'm pretty sure its the dedicated server running on your machine. If you installed it from the disc, it automatically starts a service that uses up the network port. Try uninstalling the dedicated server or diabling the process that is running.

It didn't work

Still give me the same error message. I added the port exception to windows firewall. Should I add it to the router? How do I uninstall the dedicated server? Thorugh control panel?

Yeah in the Control panel go to Add/Remove Programs and see if you see it in there. Un-install it.
