Subject: Why are we still allowing youfail.org links?

This has been going on for a very long time, and I think it doesn't help anything out. It's just an insult. The only difference is that the link (generally) isn't disguised as something else (but neither was Objection).
It seems to just promote and encourage flaming and replying to spam.

Is there a reason why this isn't against the rules?

EDIT - Unless "any other stupid memes" includes this, but I've never seen anything done to people who link to this.

July 15, 2008... The day the timer stood still.

I havn't seen it being used excessively. Rick Roll and Objection! were out of control, and youfail.org is more of an insult than anything else, but I have yet to really see it being used beyond limit. I wouldn't mind a ban against it though.

I see at as a bit of light hearted humour. I must agree they can be a tad annoying however more and more things are getting to be bannable offences. Sometimes it is best to let these things die out rather than having 101 reason to ban people.
This is just my opinion sorry if im stepping on any mods toes, i have already upset some UK mods in another thread. Sorry by the way! :-)

My problem is that it's not dying out.
It's getting excessively old and annoying.
While I have never been given the link before, it's only funny to the people who it's not directed to.

It makes any link look suspicious and it's not productive. I don't like having to sort out so many irrelevant links.

I agree with this, I mean its off topic, and is compleatly irrelevent, and a form of flaming. I dont really see why people arent banned for this.

I guess I'll be the one to take the unpopular view. I honestly see no problem with them or any other meme. Seriously, what's wrong with Rick Rolls, Rain Rolls, Duck Rolls, Objection!s, or the youfail.org links? They're memes, they're fads, they come and go, you don't have to get your panties in a bunch just because somebody thinks you failed or gave you a link to an '80s pop song. Memes are what make forums fun, I for one wouldn't like it if people are getting banned just for making a little joke.

I agree with this point to, I guess im a bit on both sides, but seeing as how the "Rick Rolled" posts get banned, I dont see why they still allow "You Fail" links.

Double poast

Because they started on 4chan( Specifically the rainroll and duckroll and Objection I think.) and shouldnt be used outside of 4chan.

It makes my anonymous brethren angry.

Besides they only make sense there

They should be. I know some are (the ones I've seen at least). If you see it, report it.

The fact is the Mods are very much aware with this continuing problem and will deal with the trouble makers in the way they see fit. The bet thing to do is to leave them to it and not flame a guy for postig such a link just simply highlight to other users that it is there so it can be avoided and hopefully the mods will see this and hand out the deserved punishment. There is not point in flaming the guy who made the link as then you yourself are dropping to thier level and what you are doing is not to distant from what they ahve done, which is posting comments that are of no help to anyone!

I see it a lot, especially on the H3 forums, some threads go out of control with the youfail and you got owned links.

Honestly. I think closing the forums for a whole month and only allowing groups due to member abuse would probably solve all this meme and spam crap.

A bit of a drastic solution! it is only a small minority off people who cause these problems and as i have said before the Mods have controlled the situation well.

I don't find them annoying, just that they often quickly derail decent topics. It seems that as soon as a "meme" is posted, it's a calling-card for all spammers and flamers to flock in and murder every moving thing in sight. That's my only problem. I actually find them funny sometimes..

(notice placement of "sometimes".)

Lol, i know it's drastic. But bans are so common here it doesn't work. Im all for member's being able to have a good time, and most people who know what I say in reply to moderators is that they are too harsh on minor infractions. This however, isn't really minor. There is way too much random spam though. Closing the main forums, or even just the Halo 3 forum, would probably send a big heads up to the community. Even if only for a week or two.

Haha, that really makes me laugh.

Just a few hours is pushing it, and I really don't ever see that happening, either.

Edit: Plus, then they would all come and disrupt the Septagon.

And then we make a topic that says, for every thread that complains, one hour will be added to the down time. That should shut them up, lol.

It will get old and uncool and eventually people won't use it as much.

You have to have patience. I sat through 3 years of completely lame Chuck Norris jokes, you can get through this.
