More moderators = more butting of heads. During the peak hours, there's been numerous times where a few moderators try to move a thread at once and it ends up making about 3 or 4 "Moved:" notices all over the forums.

I don't think we need more moderators. Can't you guys handle a bit of spam while I sleep? You know that as soon as a moderator is online, it's going to be taken care of. You can't be that desperate that you need a moderator on all the time.

And you know that the only people on the forums that are "moderator material" live in the US anyway; a peak hour time which is very well moderated already. I just don't see the point.

True. Ash55 lives in the UK s he can cover the UK times when it is less hectic.

What people need to do is stop posting in spam threads and report them. Try asking for messenger contact info. some of the mods have that info readily available to you. You just need to know where to look. All posting does is bump the thread, and give the spammer the satisfaction they seek. We can all do our part, and make these forums a better place. Bungie.net doesn't need more moderators.

This man hit the nail on the head. You would be amazed at how fast this stuff would go away if it were ignored and reported. Too many times I have seen people respond to stuff saying " Mods please lock" or " this needs to be locked." Instead of responding try it the right way. Ignore and report. I will ask that if you do see me on that you report the thread with a link and the offender. I sometimes am busy doing other things and cannot have an in depth conversation with you.

This is a volunteer gig and most of us have lives outside of this place. I for one am going through our busy time at work. Sometimes I just want to come on here check a few things and go to bed. Of course I do wind up taking care of a few things while I am here. I hate to say it but our lives do not revolve around Bungie.net. We help out as we can and for some of us we do not have as much time as we would like to donate. Hopefully now that our hot spot is up at work I can donate a bit more time to the task.

Oh and I am going to start being a real hard ass to people who respond to spam. You will now start getting warnings and then blacklistings for it.

The problem with this is that the forums are still bogged down with spam. If anything a deletion would be better to keep the search feature clean. OR, we could make it even easier to report these things by adding a report post button to the bottom of each post that allows a member to e-mail the moderators about problem posts.

Another problem is this huge time gap that seems to happen. We need at least 1 or 2 Ninja online 24/7 so the forums are constantly monitored. So a couple more mods with that time zone or maybe that sleeping habit would be grand, and really help keep the forum clean during the wee hours of the night/morning.

I think we definitely will need more (active) moderators when Halo 3 hits. I mean, one man can only lock so many "ZOMG TEH HEYLOW 3#######" topics before his mouse breaks.

I can't wait for that bundle of ignorance.

It's a shame. I'm usually on at this time (2-4 am) and I could be clearing some of this nonsense before Moderators sign in.
Oh well. I accept that fact that won't happen. But, I'm tired of getting a headache trying to find something legible at this hour.

And the Shadow fell upon the Land, and the World was riven stone from stone. The oceans fled, and the mountains were swallowed up, and the nations were scattered to the eight corners of the World. The moon was blood, and the sun was as ashes. The seas boiled, and the living envied the dead. All was shattered, and all but memory lost, and one memory above all others, of him who brought the Shadow and the Breaking of the World. And him they named Dragon.

Yes, I think we need more moderators. It is not that they do a bad job, it is just that they don't seem to be online enough. (Or at the right time .)
There are large portions of each day where the ninjas are absent. Maybe they should "hire" more ninjas from different time zones, because the majority of the ninjas seem to be online at the same time of day.

How about 23 ACTIVE moderators?

Good point. Still, there's only about 3 pretty inactive one's, but they still pop in occasionally and do some moderating.. That leaves us with 20? Seems like enough. I just had this thought because of the current state.. Of course, Anton just walked in and locked a bunch of threads, so it seems like I was just be presumptuous.

Prometheus, I think by Active he meant, you know, at least once a month. ;) Obviously they have obligations elsewhere, though, which everyone understands.

Actually We have 25 Active Moderators Including Bungie Staff.
We Have an AdjutantReflex (Which Obviously doesn't count)
And 3 Inactive Moderators. (1 of which is semi-active. But doesn't post).
Right now we have plenty. 25 active moderators is enough. It just goes to show you that we have more people helping us out than you think.

You also have kiss ass members like me with mod contacts on MSN messaging them threads that need to be locked and stuff. So we have plenty of people :-)

Right now we deffinitly have enough mods at the time being. But what happens when Halo 3 comes out? The amount of threads is probably going to double so the mods should start monitoring alot more before the game comes out and into the few weeks when it comes out.

I'm fully aware of how many moderators we have. Of course, there are a lot of people on this website. Just a reminder, don't make me the bad guy here or something, saying our moderating team is doing something wrong. (It feels like a few of you are getting a little hostile about it, I know our moderating team does a fantastic job) I'm not really agreeing that we need more. It just seemed like a good idea when I posted about it. :P

Maybe they should let the Soul back out to play in the halo 3 forum. That might clean up a few things...

I still hold the same opinion for the Halo 3 forum, that I held for New Mombasa 3 years ago.

Leave it be. If you want to really discuss Halo 3, do it in Private with friends (either real life, or online). The argument's raised are more powerful, and the discussion more in-depth.

Soul is a loose cannon bound only be simple rules. It cannot differentiate between purposeful infractions and accidents.

Halo3Planet, the place for all things Halo 3..

Need help finding skulls, make sure to go here.

I kind of think we need more moderators, too. Just based on what has been going on in the H3 forum now, I can't imagine what it will be like right before and after Halo 3 comes out. But, I trust Achronos and everyone else enough to know that they will make the right decisions, and I'm sure they are anticipating and preparing for the rush that inevitably will happen.

Just some food for thought.

While 25 moderators may sound like alot, it isnt for this forum. Think of it this way...

Im not sure of the total number of b.net members, but I am going to assume around 500,000.

So, 500,000 devided by 25 ends up to be about 20,000 members per moderator. So I think a 20,000:1 ration of members to moderators is a bit outnumbered eh? Even if it is only 50,000 members, it would be 2,000:1.

So if it's 500,000 members, and even having a 2,000:1 ratio is too much... we need more than 250 moderators?

We don't need more moderators. This isn't a situation where being outnumbered is that much of a problem. If we were trying to herd sheep, then maybe we would need more moderators. But we're just getting rid of spammers on a forum, and that isn't as affected by a large amount of members.

True, but still. Even adding 2-5 more moderators would have a pretty big effect on things, especially if they were moderators that covered the gaps in activity. We have 3 inactive moderators as was said. So it is actually smaller number. Adding or even replacing them would help alot.

If i were to do things, which I am not in the position to and it really isn't my say, I would have at least 4-5 global moderators, and 3 dedicated to a specific forum. That would turn out to around 30 moderators.

The moderator system is fine how it is and we definetly do not need any more! I find myself getting extremely annoyed to find that people post in spam threads. So much so that i am often tempted to post a message informing people that they are making the situation worse. However this would just add to the problem.
I read these forums every single day and to be honest there is only a small amount of spam, sure i would like it to go away but we ca't rely on the Mods. The fact of the matter is that us "the community" can do alot ourselves to make the forums a better place.
Infact i find threads titled "we need more mods" or "stop the spam" as much of a problem as the spam itself. So lets just help the mods instead of complaining to them.

Not that much spam? This is one of the most spam infested forums I have attended. Most other forums half at the most half this much spam. The purpose of this thread is to help the mods by adding to their forces. It would be a great help if we directly aided them. Of course, it is damn near impossible to do so by wanting to.

When you consider the quantity of people on the forums and the vast amount of threads produced by each individual, it's not suprising there is a bit of spam now and then. On a spam to member ratio i would say its not to bad.
The main fact is to try and stop the spam and simply let it drift of the main page ASAP. If people didnt post in spam threads then we wouldnt even see two thirds of the spam.

All I have to say is that it isn't as bad as it was during Halo 2... post one thread and wham, it's on the second page already. You are right it isn't too bad compared to the number of people on here. But there is still too much of it.

That's not what I meant. I myself am not an American citizen, as are 5 or so other moderators. The fact is that most of the outstanding members of the community that we could trust with giving a moderator position at the moment are in the US.
