OPEN IT UP.

It's labeled under each slot on your motherboard.

Or you can ask the motherboard politely "which one of your slots is the PCIe x16 slot" hehe.

The PCIe x16 slot is the longest slot in your motherboard, not all motherboards tell you what slot is what, so the best way to find out, is to get someone who knows, or just buy the graphics card and see which slot it fits into. Do you know whether you motherboard has a PCIe x16 slot or AGP x4/x8 slot?

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Having a manual for your motherboard helps, too.

Yea, I learnt the hard way, lol. And learning the hard way is always better if you want to remember in the future, unless you already have a good memory and reading the manual would do fine.

Slaying noobs since 2007.

You can also take a look at you Graphics card, if it's connection is smalll on down the interface it is PCI-e, if it is torwards the center it's AGP.

I believe PCI-E is black, while PCI is white, so AGP is another color, maybe brown idk.

you can always google your mobo or look it up on newegg'

this is an SLI motherboard

the PCI-E x16 slots are black and blue

this is a P4 motherboard with one PCI-E slot, the black one

the black and blue slots side-by-side are for your RAM, so don't try to plug in a graphics card to where your RAM goes lol

Actually, the PCI(-e)/AGP slots are whatever color the manufacturer decides to make them. My PCI-e slot happens to be orange.

Guys, I think he's asking how to tell what kind of slot he has.

In this photo you can see PCI-E 4x at the top followed by a PCI-E16x then the tiny PCI-E 1x, the second PCI-E 16X. At the bottom is the old PCI slot. Just to drive home the point that the color of the slot means nothing, these slots have been made a god awful shade of mustard.

This shows an AGP slot. The photo also illustrates the ports are labeled as you can see the tiny AGP and PCI above the repective ports.
