I was looking on google for a good Halo wallpaper, and I saw some really old-looking version of the MC. It looked like something before Halo Combat Evolved. I was wondering if anyone could point to me what game that is (if it ever became one), and some info on that. Thanks!

If I recall corectly Bungie intended to make Halo a RTS game at first.
But as development proceeded they turned it into an FPS, the game you know now.

There is an RTS Halo game coming out sometime, its called Halo Wars.

Edit: The pics you saw are probably from the early build Halo versions.

Yeah that makes sense. I remember seeing an article in OXM and it's headline mentioned something of it being an RTS before, then it became an FPS.

Is there any website which has/had pics from the old version, and info...?

It was intended to be a Mac RTS. They had almost finished the game, and even showed a trailer of it. Then Microsoft bought Bungie and then Halo turned into an FPS and debuted on the Xbox in November of 2001.
