Is there any way of correcting a problem like host for halo 3. I loved 1v1 and now the closest thing to it is 2v2, but whenever i play it with a buddy we have to deal with games that revolve around the influence of host. Such games like a slayer with default weapon of smg on ivory tower is just rediculous considering the idea of weapon adv. with the combination of host... you will never win unless the people you are playing are just idiots. Other games like 2v2 on warlock just get old way to fast. Spawning with a Br is fantastic, but when you shoot someone eight times head shots primarily and they dont die then turn around and shoot you three times and your dead, well to say the least, is very frustrating. Needless to say i could ramble on on the amazingly, incredible, misfortunes all have had to deal with in halo considering host and how i know several people that were huge halo fans but now will not play because they get frustrated way to fast on how sketchy games can get with shady spawn kills, spawn locations, serious host advantage, and terrible game setups. Halo is the best first person shooter and is the funnest game in the world to play but when played on live rather then a system link if you dont have host, the game just is to frustrating to be fun when you know you should be doing a lot better then what the stats are showing.
What do you guys feel?

Halo 3 has the same "host" system as Halo 2 right?

dont honestly know. host is given to those who have the best internet connection. What i dont like about this is that those that always will have extremely good connection will always get host and probably win most of there games. those of us without a matching connection have to deal with dying by the host hands twenty four seven. I dont think the problem can be solved because there is no such thing as a neutral connection. Only possible if bungie hosted all games.

I could've swore this "host" problem was being resolved in Halo 3. Something like a dedicated server provided by Bungie so that no one in the game would get host?

Eh, maybe someone with a little more knowledge on the subject will post.

The host advantage is another one of those love/hate things, you love it when you have it and hate it when you don't. When I play I really don't notice that big of a difference whether I have host or not. I just play to play though, to me its just a game and rank means nothing. I'm just in it for the fun.

I can't be bothered looking up many other posts that I've put this in but here goes a short version -

Host in Halo 2 was a distinct advantage, which grows more advantageous with physical distance between the host and other players. All in game assets like weapons, shots, vehicles etc are decided by the single host in Halo 2.

Nothing that you see on your screen when you are not host is actually real! Just the closer to the host the less you notice the difference/effects.

In halo 3 some weapons and I am sure other 'assets' are decided by what you see on your screen, totally disregarding host in this respect. This is the reason we have Halo 3 Beta reports about the shotgun always working. Client validated VS. host validated.

If Bungie get these sorts of validations running smoothly, then a single host will not have as much advantage regardless of distance. Only I pray this doesn't open the door for more 'off-host' cheating. Which in my mind is a serious issue.

There are many variables in this and too much for me to type but the basics are described above.

From what I've been reading you are grossly misinformed.

NO DEDICATED SERVERS, but not the same system as Halo 2, more client validation VS host validation.

you make it sound as if the host is invincible. he is barely better with brs except long range. and shotty. and he can stick easier. but he is not too hard to kill. and just because someone else has host doesn't mean it takes him 8 br headshots to die.

i thought h3 wasn't dedicated. that would cost waaaayyyy to much money for a game that will be played as much as h3 will be. but the host advantage is barely noticeable in h3 (in the beta i never noticed anyone with an advantage. not once. i never knew who was host in a game in the beta and i played over 1000 games.)
