No, Custom Edition is a barren wasteland filled with nothing but Hugeass and Cold Snap servers and the occasional CMT content. It's still worth your time downloading it, though.

  • 07.31.2007 8:25 PM PDT

ok man, thanks.... do you know If I will be able to use the 360 controller on it? I asumming I can...

Unless you want to spawn another "Console vs. PC" war, I would just use the Mouse and Keybord.

Then what the hell is Counter-Strike?

A lame, piece of crap example of an FPS. Seriously, CS blows.

And Halo doesn't?

Honestly, though, despite the fact there are quite a large number of servers online at any time in Halo, it's not as active as it used to be. It's slowly dying, I'm afraid.

The fact that Halo 1 has (xbox) has been out for six years roughly, and Halo 2 for just about 3. Yet there's more players playing both these than most any other games this old. The Halo franchise is what GoldenEye was with N64. A fresh FPS, a way to enjoy the type of game in a whole new perspective.
I, like most people, that play FPS', is still in love with the Halo games, whether it be on xbox, pc, or 360. THE GAMES ARE GOOD NO MATTER WHAT !

The only other game I can think of that really stood out from other games in it's genre is World of Warcraft. I wasn't a big fan of playing the game 3+ hours a day, but when I did I enjoyed the crap outta it.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that Halo is a great game and stands out from the rest. It doesn't try to be like other games, instead other games try to be like it.

You need to shut your mouth, get off these forums, and stop playing Halo if you think it blows.

Wrong. Unreal Tournament? Half-Life? Hello? As of May 2006, Counter-Strike is still the most widely played FPS in the world, and it came out in 1999. StarCraft was released in 1998 and it has sold over nine million copies and it's still extremely popular (especially in Korea). Halo has got nothing on this.

You need to play more games. :)

Fresh? A new perspective? Please, elaborate. Although I do admit Halo had superb controls for a console shooter and once again proved that the genre could be played on a console, that doesn't mean too much for the PC.

Games good no matter what platform? Halo 2 was a disappointing lackluster port on the PC, from what I've heard.

Yeah, you definitely need to play more games.

Yes and no. In my opinion, Halo doesn't stand out that well as an original title. Most of it is nothing new I haven't played before, to be honest. Space zombies? A giant ring in space? I don't even know where I'd begin with examples. Yeah, Halo is totally innovative and all the credit goes solely to Halo considering that it doesn't borrow inspiration or ideas from other games or works of literature whatsoever. [/sarcasm] Perhaps it is good, and yes, even influential, but I don't consider Halo as genre defining or as important as Half-Life was to first-person shooters. Unless you're talking about consoles, Halo really isn't that special and most PC gamers don't care too much about it.

Haha, look who's talking. I don't think Halo blows, I was just saying if you really think Counter-Strike is bad, then just imagine how bad Halo is on this scale. Again, I would like you to elaborate why you think what many gamers consider to be one of the greatest shooters of all time blows.

It was my opinion that I think CS blows. That's all, nothing more nothing less. I was just trying to defend Halo because I thought you implied that Halo blew.

I'm just saying, because if Halo PC was Asia, then what could you classify Counter-Strike as, considering its popularity and its number of players to this day is vastly superior to Halo's?

And so what if I think Halo blows? Which it doesn't, it's just merely over rated and Counter-Strike is a better game than it in my opinion.

Fight hard, break bones >{o

on topic: halo still has many players. i bought it recently and its never hard to find a game. a good game is tougher though (almost everyone is playing rockets or snipers and usually the same few maps)

off topic: no matter what you think of CS you gotta admit the xbox version sucked hard. so that just says how good halo must be :)

but seriously halo's story is awesome, there are tons of things to do when you've beaten the game (and without mods), and its got the best multiplayer experience on a console today. im not surprised CS has more players then halo becuase frankly i believe most people are idiots. but i wont diss any PC game as i dont have the money or time to play them. Halo pc is good, definitely nice i can use my xbox controller and play online (perhaps mouse and keyboard beats controllers, but i dont have the time to devote to get such a small advantage). personally i think 10 sensitivity on a 360 controller is enough.

the only reason i would rather have a game on the pc is becuase of mods and more features like map editors (and expanding on that, custom images and screenshots and such)

Yeah, on the Xbox, at least.

Hmm, I'm beginning to wonder if Eight Bit thinks Counter-Strike sucks because he had the misfortune to play the crappy Xbox version...

i have a kid about 13 on my friends list that still plays CS for the xbox. frickin strange, lol.

the reason i dont even care to try CS on the PC is becuase Shadowrun copied it (with buying equipment) and thats the thing i hate most about Shadowrun. i like buying equipment in Rainbow Six Vegas (or unlocking it) and i liked RS:Lockdowns buying grenades (stops people from throwing a million nades) but not having to start all over every single round from scratch... it just makes the first few rounds unenjoyable (at least in shadowrun)

Except that Counter-Strike's gameplay pace is about ten times as fast and makes most console shooters look like slow-paced games. It makes Halo look like Snailo. You don't need to wait a bunch of rounds to get the equipment and weapons you want. Trust me, you don't even notice it.

I love it when people like yourself put their faith into small children who don't even have the game. Halo 2 isn't a "great" port, but it sure as hell isn't a lackluster port. Gearboxes port however, was, and no one goes around saying "Halo PC sucks," all you get are positive comments on a game with so many more flaws than Hired Guns port.

People, before you go making statements like this, get either multiple resources on your decision from people who HAVE the game (like me), or better yet, go get it yourself.

H1 is still heavily populated--I can get pub games any time from 3 am to noon in the middle of the week. :D During primetime, I usually have to camp the server list to catch an opening in the servers I like.

Also, I don't want to step into one of these "which video game is better?" arguments, but I think most people who've played H1 would agree that it has a well-executed, highly polished campaign (even if you don't like space zombies) and a very satisfying multiplayer that's more than just zooming around ugly mazes. In fact, I won't be moving on until I find a game that plays a whole lot like it. (Not H2v, btw...yuck.)
