Considering the fact that this piece of crap was supposed to be the flagship title for Games for Windows Live is pretty sad, considering Halo 2 in itself doesn't impress many PC gamers. Halo PC? "All you get are positive comments"? That couldn't be farther from the truth, dude. I, for one, have more than once moaned and complained about the horrid netcode. What about the fact that it's a system whore that required higher specs to run it than it should have? What about the lack of a friends list online? Hey, I want you to name as many flaws as you can think of in Halo PC and I can come up with just as many as in Halo 2. Halo PC is far from perfect, but Halo 2 Vista even more so.
And I agree that you, and many of the smarter people on this forum loath Halo PC for it's problems like I do. However, about 60% pf the average MAWzorz thinks the game is fine. Welcome to the new MAW, where everyone is an idiot. And the truth is that Halo PC had more major flaws than H2 vista. Halo 2's netcode has very little problems in it, I've gotten sever lag only once, and that was when my dad was using torrent and hogging the bandwidth, any game would lag under that. Also, people say that H2 is badly compromised. It's a bunch of -blam!-. Everyone that I have met (including myself) who has the game has been able to run it fine within their own specs. People with av average PC's like mine run the game on medium (or high, just on a smaller resolution). People with kick ass PC run it on huge resolutions with everything up. And people with crap PC's run it like crap, it's really that simple. However, back when Halo PC came out, you either had to play it on a low resolution but with everything up. Or a high resolution with everything down, both of which look like crap. Oh and don't forget that if your PC ran on the "minimum requirements" you would basically get a white screen. At least in Halo 2 the "minimum" requirements will get you a decent picture on low res medium, or high res low.
Let me give you an example: What kind of PC game doesn't have separate audio sliders for in-game sound and music? Halo 2. You can't turn off the music? That's just a minor quibble, mind you, but it just goes to show you that this is mostly just a straight port from the Xbox to the PC with some minor add-ons.
You just pointed out something I liked to call a minor problem. This is a minor annoyance. It shows that they sped up and pissed it all out on the end without polishing it, but it really doesn't have that much effect on gameplay. This also includes things like the BxR (I think that really isn't too much of a problem compared to the xbox version, but thats your choice).
How about the fact that aside from the new multiplayer maps, there are no new weapons or vehicles? At least Gearbox Software was competent enough to grace us with new content. (Yeah, yeah, I know we all we ended up was getting the noob rods and the flame thrower, but at least we got something.)
Something that made the game worse, ya I really want more of game ruining weaponry. And they did add the silenced SMG (which can be considered an entirely new weapon in itself) and the Fuel Rod in Multiplayer (which is no where near as noobish as the H1 Fuel Rod). As for vehicles, yes we lack them, do I care? No, the normal H1 vehicle set was fine. Unless you wanted a mongoose, there really wasn't much they could add thats not already in the game. Longswords on Coag sounds worse than rocket servers.
It lacks luster, okay? That's just my opinion. Perhaps it's just me, but it appears that Halo 2 Vista has just as many issues and problems if not more than Halo PC. Let me say something again, this was supposed to be the freaking first game for Games for Windows - Live, but they screwed even that up with that nightmare of a delay. Are PC gamers supposed to be enticed with some cold left overs that Microsoft just stuck into the microwave for a few seconds? The only other game out there is Uno and Shadowrun.
I agree with this, the game isn't what Microsoft claimed it would be. However, when people say the game sucks they are far off. It should score around a 7.5/10. Which is far from a great score, but if we turn that into the F-A range, thats a C. Which isn't a good grade to start your windows live launch title on, but it certainly doesn't deserve the criticism it's getting. Lacks luster is the perfect word, not good, not bad, but lacking the luster.
Maybe I'm just pulling this stuff out of my ass considering I don't own the game
Best comment you made in the entire post.
