i Bought Halo 2 for windows live today. i use vista ultimate as my operating system. The game is installed, loads fine. I log into my windows live ID when it loads and then i select my gamer tag. I then go to the "Live" option in game, and it says no LIVE profiles found. to connect to LIVE, please join LIVe or sign in with an existing account. That happens even though im already signed into LIVE, help?

Id make my own thread here, but apparently i cant find the "create new thread button"
Yeah, Bungie doesn't work out their page correctly. And talk about downgrading this forum. Gah...

I'm having the "cannot map 'E' key" problem. The fix does not work for me because then I cannot remap /other/ keys that I want to use (such as Left Mouse Button). I'm not here looking for a fix since it is a known problem; I just want to chime in and say that this is something that needs to be fixed. As it is, Halo 2 PC is unplayable for me. I heavily customize my controls and when the 'Custom' option doesn't work, a game obviously has issues.

As a side-note, I was going to report this issue to Microsoft since all of the support for this game is supposed to be handled through their website, but their servers will not accept my PID as valid. Frustrating, but I am patient...

i have a quick question. I just wanted to know how to get my Halo 1 for the PC to show up in as good graphics as it should. My computer meets the system requirements, but the graphics aren't as vivid as they should be (ex: All armors including multi-player are gray instead of color, the visors are black instead of gold, etc, etc.)

You sure that your graphics card supports pixel shaders? If it does then try forcing them on by using the command line parameter -use14 or if it supports higher shader versions the -use20
check the Halo readme file for some good tips and more parameters.

So... as a follow-up to my post above:

Where do we go for Tech Support for Halo 2 for Windows Vista? Bungie says we have to go to MS' site which doesn't address the keyboard issue. If I try to start a trouble ticket with them, I get as far as entering my Product ID which it then tells me is invalid. Do I really have to pay $35 just to tell them about a problem in a game I bought?

Does anyone know if anyone (Bungie or MSFT) has said anything about this issue? Is there any hope at all as the game has been out a few months and this (what I feel is a) major bug is still present?

I know I said I'm patient, but I'm excited to play Halo 2 and I'm frustrated, haha.

Right-click the shortcut and select Properties, then, in the target window, add a space and then the parameter, so that, for instance, it would look like this:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\Halo.exe" -use20
REMEMBER! After the quotes, add the space and then the parameter. Also, if you wish to use multiple parameters at once then add another space inbetween.

Theres a button that says New Topic. You need to post at least 3 times before it comes up. It's near the Save Thread button.

D) Defrag.
Why? - Because Halo 2 can be very glitchy on where the gamefiles are and in what shape they are in.
-How to:
Go to Control Panel, from there System Maintenance and under the Administrative Tools is the Defragmenting option.

The Disk Defragmenter in Vista sucks. Come on, no defrag map. I ues this. It's quick and reliable.

Wierd too. ATI just released a driver for Vista and its version 7.1. The previous one was 7.9. Wierd. Any Noticable differences in H2V Performance anyone?
EDIT: My fragmentation map just got clogged because of this driver. DEFRAG AFTER INSTALLING IT

I guess that ATI didn't feel that there were enough changes in it to call it 8.0 so the just slammed a extra zero into the end (7.10)
And yeah, defragging your gamefiles and drivers after installing them is very important.
I didn't notice any differences in performance between versions 7.9 and 7.10

So, because of the limitations (mainly the 10000 character limit) of this forum I won't be able to update the original post as I've done with the others located over at H2Vista.net and at Halo 2 on Vista which means that I'll have to remove some things from the list like I've already done... So if you have serious problems with the game then see also The Original Thread.

Actually, that is just how ATi numbers their drivers and has for the past 3 or 4 years. Ever since the Catalyst series of drivers came out, ATi numbers their drivers according to the scheme [Year of Driver Release].[Month]. So, this is the 7th year and the 10th month, which means the version is 7.10. Next month will be 7.11, December 7.12 and January 8.1. Yes, I agree it should be 8.01, but ATi doesn't number their drivers according to people who know how computers count, haha.

this is the original source of the computer bug!

The invention of the term is often erroneously attributed to Grace Hopper, who publicized the cause of a malfunction in an early electromechanical computer. A typical version of the story is given by this quote:
“ In 1946, when Hopper was released from active duty, she joined the Harvard Faculty at the Computation Laboratory where she continued her work on the Mark II and Mark III. Operators traced an error in the Mark II to a moth trapped in a relay, coining the term bug. This bug was carefully removed and taped to the log book September 9th 1945 [sic]. Stemming from the first bug, today we call errors or glitch's [sic] in a program a bug. [3] ”

i have found that the M$ firewall turns on by it self. this can cause one game not to see another! (or anything else on that system from the outside)
kill it ! (if you have broadband internet and are not using a router, get one! ) i recommend dlink.

I just bought Halo 2 for PC today. During installation I accidently hit cancel. Now when I try to install the game it tells me i have "files missing or damaged in the installation directory". I couldn't uninstall the game because it wasn't fully installed yet. I went into the folder for the game and manually erased all the files. i went into add/remove programs and erased anything else I could find. I defragged my computer. I still get the same message of "files missing or damaged in the installation directory" when I try to install it. I know my computer is capable of handling the game and I'm running vista. Can anyone help because i can't think of anything else!!!! Thanks
