Ok, I recently popped in a second gfx card into my computer. I thought it would be way "awesomer". Well all my other games are...Halo 2 Vista...not so much. My question is this...is anyone else using SLi to play Halo 2 Vista? If so how is it for you? I currently have dual 8600GTs and I was able to play it almost lag free with one, but now that i have the second card it has started to lag alot...but keep in mind that it's just Halo 2 Vista.

I have an option in my bios that isn't in the manual, and I can't find out about anywhere else. The option is to enable nVidia Ex, but opnly if your card is capable and if the drivers are capable. I have no idea what it is or what it will do if i enable it...

Thanks in advance!

I'm using SLI with two 7300GTs and I can play on high settings at 1920 resolution with almost no framerate loss. The only time I can recall where I get bad framerate is on the custom map Beach Battle when I'm underneath the waterfall.

Here you will need this to help you get your foot out of the back of your throat, looks llike its in there pretty deep. And what is that on your face? Egg?! *hands Kim a washcloth*

I agree with matt, it's a bad idea to SLI midrange cards as they are almost always out performed by the higher end cards.

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

I will admit, nVidia's SLI drivers for Vista aren't that great right now.

I figure out what was wrong. In the 3D Settings, the SLI Performance mode was set to Single - GPU. I wasn't even using both cards yet...now it looks amazing with zero lag...everything on high again.

Yeah, im reading all over the place that nVidia's drivers in general are awful on ice right now...

The Dual 8600GT cards actually come out to way less then a single 8800. I got my first one about 2 months back for $130 when it was $180, and I just got my second one for $70 when it should have been $120 :p Those are two really long stories I can't explain here...in at both places I got the cards from I ran into big problems so they gave me a break :)

Im pretty happy with it now, once i figured out how to use the 3D Setting profiles all my games look amazing!

Well Nvidia is moving to a 1 year release cycle now, so winter is right considering the 8800 series is going to be 1 year old :S.

But in any case two 8600 GTs get stomped by one 8800 series card.

The bungie.net community is the halo PC community that is renowned for being unbelieveably sucky.

My advice to anyone is to avoid SLI. I hate to say it, but that is how I feel. 3 generations of SLI for me, and it never works like it should. Quad SLI is essentially broken and forgotten about...

NVidia has some fantastic hardware, but their software support is awful. Their point of view is to spam as many drivers as they can and hope you will keep yourself busy with installing them.

By the time they "fix" SLI in Vista, there is already a single card that outperforms any SLI setup. By the time they get THAT card working in SLI, the next card is out...rinse repeat. And sadly, it is almost never 2x the performance, more like 25% to 40% increase.

But that's how it is always going to be...I could have saved up for those, but then the next series is going to come out a year later and I will say the exact same thing.

Thats why you never buy graphics cards near the end of the life cycle...
