I'm a new player, and I bought Halo for the PC last week,. I have to say, I'm impressed.

I've not bought any PC magazines for a while, and I missed out on the reviews for it. Anyone know what kinda scores it got?

I must admit, I didn't really fancy buying it at first, because I'm not much of a FPS fan. I only bought it because they were giving away a figurine of the Master Chief free with the game. *shrugs*. I'm actually glad I bought it though.

Excellent stuff!

if you have an xbox, get the Xbox version, its much better than the PC version.

As you play the game you will learn more and more the reason why the game is truly one of the best games of all time.

can you stil buy marathon? if so where?
For being a Bungie game, what can you not buy it or halo at the bungie store???
Is this like how wine cost more at the vineyard than at the local store to help encourage people to use the vendors?

Unfortunately, I don't have an XBox. I'd like one, just can't afford one right now.

Incidentaly, what is the difference between the XBox and PC versions? I heard the PC version was just a direct port over, hence it's essentially the same.

The PC has online multiplayer, ability to import new maps, and mods. I prefer the Xbox version, just because it keeps a constant framerate.

Ahh okay, I get you... I'm not really all that bothered about frame rates. I'm old school, and grew up with PCs and Amigas when 7fps was considered quick *cough*.

As long as it gets something above 20fps without too much stutter, it's fine :D

Halo PC discussions should go in The Maw.

Yes, but on Xbox it is so much more beautiful....as long as you have a good TV. If you want to play halo 2 though, you'll want to buy an Xbox since as of right now there are no plans for a Halo 2 PC. Also so you know there are three well written Halo books. If you can, find them, and read them for some good backstory. It'll help you understand the game much better. They are,

Halo: The Fall of Reach, By Eric Nylund (Prequel to Halo)
Halo: The Flood, By William C. Dietz (During Halo)
Halo: First Strike, By Eric Nylund (Sequel to Halo, Prequel to Halo 2)

Oh yeah, and welcome to the forums. Keep your head down, your flame suit on, keep an eye out for Shishka and Stosh our wonderful and powerful (they have secret powers) moderators. Relax in the party and have fun, but don't spill your drink.

Hey Peteuplink, welcome to the Halo family. I'd have to say the Xbox version is better than the PC one also. But, only for a few reasons. One, it plays far better and because you can play co-op through the whole campaign with a friend. Nothing can match how fun that is the first time! The PC one does have a few more maps in multiplayer that I wish were on the Xbox, but thats to be expected...

klurejr: You can still buy the Marathon series from the Bungie Store, in the Mac Action Sack, along with Minotaur, Pathways Into Darkness, and Abuse. You can order it from here.

Although, you are right that you can't get Halo from the Store. Beats me why not.

Possibly because Halo is the only game Microsoft is in charge of manufacturing and shipping. The only games I wonder about are the Myth series. Where are they?

also, with the XBOX version, you can play 4 player split screen... OMG if you play that you will never stop until you play 4v4 system link, then you wont stop playing that until you play 8v8 system link... kinda like drugs but waaay better feeling.

Or download it, but you have to send Bungie some $ in the mail.

I think Halo PC got a 9.5

That kind of depends on who you ask, don't you think? Alot of reviewers didn't quite injoy it as much as they did the console one. I believe most websites and magazines gave the PC game a 8 or 9 rating. Thats not bad considering the game had been out on the console already for 2 years and it was still able to garner high scores like that.

I think this thread is getting a little OT here. We should be welcoming a new member into the Bungie community, not arguing over witch version of Halo is better. They're both essentially the same game, and they both kick major ass

peteuplink, here’s some essential links for ya:
HBO : the end all be all for anything halo.
Also be sure to visit the HBO forum

Look around this place, two. I mean hell, this is the official bungie web site. You will find tons of info on not only the incredible game that is halo, but also the incredible company that is Bungie.

After you finish the game, be sure to check out the Halo story page. One of the best things about halo is its amazing story. Also check out the halo novels, as somebody else has menchend.

So yeah, that should get you started along your way. Enjoy your stay!

Oh, and Marathon IS better ;-)

Cheers for the info. I'll have a look at the links posted, and I'm probably going to get an XBox sometime this year, just don't know when.

Surge: Bungie no longer has rights to the Myth games. Take 2 got them, along with Oni when Bungie was bought by MS - Take 2 had a 19.9% share in Bungie, so they got Myth and Oni in compensation.

Although, you can buy Oni at the Bungie Store. That's weird. Oh well.

Myth can't be bought because it isn't being manufactured anymore.

I see myth on ebay fairly regularly, along with other earlier bungie games. If you don't mind buying used games, look for it there.
