I thought it might be nice to clean up the many threads requesting name changes on Bungie.net. If you wish to have your name changed or are looking for information about unlinking your gamertag, etc, then feel free to post it here. This is not a petition, simply a place to find out information.

As of current, Bungie does not allow Bungie.net name changes. This could be changed in the future, but right now there is no way. I have not tried canceling my Live ID, but I have been warned by Achronos that bad things will happen. To avoid posting a thread about your name change, post it here. Maybe somebody will find a work around.

Happy Posting guys.

Just for informational purposes:

Achronos is the only one who can change your name, and has been known to do so on the eve of every new year if the moon is full. That is to say, extremely rarely. Feel free to beg, but make sure he's having a good day first.

Also for informational purposes:

The ONLY user IN B.NET HISTORY to have their name changed is Jeremiah, formerly known as Ninja 0n Fire.
And he's a Bungie employee, and I'm fairly certain it wasn't Achronos who did the changing.

Unless you have heard that from Achronos himself, no, it doesnt happen.
Or...is that sarcasm I hear in your voice?

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

For further informational purposes:

At present, there is no way to unlink a gamertag from your current B.net login and substitute it for a new one. If you want a different gamertag linked to your login name, the best workaround solutions are to:

1) Change your gamertag using XBL and your XBox 360;
2) Abandon your current bungie.net account and create a new account with your preferred gamertag linked.

EDIT:
By the way, I'm sure that Achronos, being a reasonable man, would change your login name if you gave him a good reason. For example, you are a nun dying of leprosy obtained while taking care of terminally ill children who all happen to be huge Bungie fans and are all 10s on the cute-kid scale, and your last dying wish is to change your login name from "NunWihtaGun" to "NunWithAGun."

Which...would be useless in the first place, because it would make your "trust" meter reset. But...thats for another thread.

I'll post here in hopes, no matter how dim, that I can change my bungie.net name. Safjn...what the hell is that, I have no idea but it's my name. It happened because of a very, very stupid mistake I made. After having so many names rejected, I just typed something random and it happened to go through. Any help would be appreciated, but its my fault I know...guess I can make up a cool story behind it. -blam!-ing complete.

And Marty too. I believe his login was originally just Marty but Achronos changed it to Marty The Elder! Probably just a rumor but I don't doubt it.

A good question is: Why won't Bungie let us change the login ID or Live ID easily? Doesn't make sense at all and it is frustrating. Why Bungie, if it made sense I guess I could understand, but it doesn't make any sense at all ever. Clear as mud.

There's too big a capacity for abuse. It would get really annoying when someone posts something, but it's a new name, but it's their old account, but they have a high trust rating, but their name isn't (let's use Rokit as an example) M3 Rokit anymore, but it's still the same person, etc.
You have a reputation in these forums, and things are the way they are to preserve those reputations.

(Nothing against you, Rokit. If anything, you're an example for the name-changing argument. Then again, you have a whole other story behind it. Sorry, neither here nor there.)

With as many threads about name changes as there are I wouldn't be surprised if they consider a name change feature sooner or later. Hopefully sooner eh?

I guess I could see problems with people changing their name all the time and making it very confusing for moderators. However, they could limit name changes to once a month or something to that effect. I think that would be a pretty good idea.

well MS is tight on changing emails and stuff. I know you can't change your name on Bungie.net because of the stats system.

It's too bad everything is so tightly woven. If there was a way to change your b.net name you wouldn't have to worry about linking, re-linking, un-linking gamertags to accounts, etc...

I sure hope they make it easier for everyone sometime soon.

Why should any of us care about our trust meter? I would guess that people hoping to become mods might care, but who else would care?
